Soul Jazz Grooves

Postby T. Willy Rye » 28 Mar 2010, 19:40

I'm not saying your tracks have to have Big John Patton, Grant Green, or Lou Donaldson, but it sure don't hurt if they do. For example:

or

Unfortunately I don't have anything to add but thanks for posting these clips. They were a blast!

This thread shouldn't be sinking to the bottom of the page.

I'll play -

Herbie Hancock - Driftin'

Horace Silver - Senor Blues (more blues than soul but I'd play the songs together)

Mongo Santamaria - Watermelon Man

Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder

Young-Holt Unlimited - Soulful Strut (a real top 30 hit!!!)

I've probably taken some liberties with the thread premise. I own all of these on 45s and would have no problem playing them together in a set so I'm going with them.

God, I love this stuff.

Killer! One of my very fave Morgan solos is on that track, intense screaming high notes that swing like a barn door. Fantastic track.

Here's one from the very under-appreciated Freddie Roach - Blues In The Front Room.

Great thread.
I'll post more when I can actually hear the videos.

For now, though:

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Any Lou Donaldson record with Dr. Lonnie Smith on it is a winner. That guy's unbeatable!

I haven't heard Blue Mitchell after Down With It! This is ridiculous (in a good way) and angetsib that Freddie Roach is superb- too bad his stuff is out of print. Everything good in me wants to keep this thread going. so...
