The two halves of Neu!..how do they compare?
I tend to prefer the more motorik side of Neu! so I might prefer La Dusseldorf, but I haven't really heard much from either band so how would you assess them in comparison to each other?
Harmonia v La Dusseldorf.

You're pretty much correct in that La Dusseldorf has a bit more motorik action. They're also less droney and more song-oriented than Neu!
But Harmonia has more melodic smarts and more imaginative sounds, I'd say. And Harmonia's Deluxe certainly has some driving tracks, with drumming by Mani Neumaier of Guru Guru.
The first La Dusseldorf album and Harmonia's Deluxe would probably be the ones to check out first.

You'd pay big bucks to know what you really think.

As I see it, Harmonia didn't write "Cha Cha 2000". Therefore La Dusseldorf, who did, win.

The La D debut is one of my very favourite krautrock albums, I rate it as the greatest thing Klaus Dinger ever did. But the two Harmonia albums are very strong in their own right as well and after the majestic gig I saw by them on Saturday, they've gone up even further in my estimation.
"U2 routinely spent a year in the studio...I have a theory: if you put four monkeys in the studio for a year with Lanois and Eno and Lillywhite, they would make a pretty good record, too."

Harmonia for me - their sense of melody is superior and that is something that hooks me in.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.

Harmonia. I love the relentlessness of La D but the melodic sense of wonder imbued by Roedelius and Moebius gives them the edge. I always feel when listening to "Deluxe" that I'm on the cusp of discovering something truly beautiful.

. I'm sure that's what I'll choose to do. Next time in town I'll see what I can pick up. Thanks for the comments everyone, that's been quite helpful.

as the old ones has something to wish for

The three La Düsseldorf albums were remastered (from the original masters, after years of legal confusion) in 2005. These are the releases on Warner/Telefunken.
Beware of CDs from Japan (taken from Dinger's last remaining vinyl copy). And the Water releases from the UK (mentioned in Record Colector and other mags) are quite dubious - they don't mention the original sources... (and claim to be the "first official CD release" - which is nonsense.)
