Your picks for Greatest Pop Songs 1997-2007
Alright the idea was flirted with in the "Greatest Pop Single?" poll, with the only recent candidate being "Hey Ya!" However, since singles are a fairly meaningless measure of a song's pop greatness, which pop songs would you put in your ideal Greatest Pop Song from the last 10 years?
I would submit a few of the everenlarging Matthew Sweet's last couple of albums at the very least:
Kimi Ga Suki * Raifu is nearly a candidate album, because the run of pop greatness is simply amazing. Here are two of my choices from that album.
"Dead Smile" - hard driving yet sublime pop. That "STAY YOUNGER NOW!" part at the end drives the whole song home. I highly recommend this one.
"Wait" - many many layers of vocals =
I also would like to submit "In My Tree" from Living Things. Slow, yes, but my goodness what a song.

I'd go with "Music Sounds Better With You" Stardust.

I think actually you will find it is one of these:-
Groovejet, by Spiller
Can't get you out of my head, by Kylie
Oops...I did it again, by Britney Spears
Hung up, by Madonna
Independent Women part I, by Destiny's Child.
Intriguingly no male vocals (though Hey Ya! is a close call).

I'm not a great fan of modern pop, but this says it all, doesn't it?
Yeah it says that people here haven't extracted their heads from their anal cavities in nigh on 20 years

It has to be Hey Ya or Milkshake. Toxic was also very good.

"Overload" (2000) by Sugababes is THE greatest one (IMO).
Modern pop perfection!
Stands out from the rest by a mile.

Most important (but great as well): 'Get Ur Freak On' - Missy Elliot
Best (but important as well):
'Crazy in Love' - Beyonce
'Hey Ya!' - Outkast
and maybe my absolute pick ...
'Umbrella' - Rihanna
It's certainly nothing which I'd hear down a Barfly club night.
