Not exactly just another list thread. I propose we more or less come to a consensus about what the 100 most BCB-approved acts are, and then every day I'll put a thread up about one of them and we can pick our favorite song and album and generally discuss their merits. In the end I can tally the 'votes' and post the 100 most loved songs and albums by our 100 most loved artists, but the main thing is the discussion. Let's get to our cores, here, people.
I've put together an attempted objective list of 100 artists, but it was drawn from my collection and is probably at least a bit subjective. So, from this initial list, let's spend a couple of days refining it. For organizations sake, everyone can list up to three acts that should be jettisoned as long as each one of these is given a replacement. If four people agree on an artist being scrapped, it's gone. But no willfully perverse nonsense, like trying to toss the Beatles out. Also, it seems a bit ridiculous to consider an act that had no more than two albums, but if you can make a serious case for the inclusion of such, go for it.

If you do want to be objective though, you have to say Bob Marley is a bit more important than Lucinda Williams!
I was just trying to be objective in putting out an initial list. Although, Marley would be a bit more of a shoe-in than LW, I guess. There's where the subjective bit came in, I guess. But the point of the exercise is not purely a canonical, 'most important/influential' list, but to come up with the 100 that mean the most to us as a group.

I'd suggest someone like Lee Perry but I think having any more reggae than Bob Marley might be a bit disingenuous. I dunno.
And, I mean, I'd really like to see Solomon Burke on there (been on a helluva Sol kick lately) but I can't really remember any enthusiastic discussion either way on the man. I'm sure no one would feel strongly enough to want him off, and conversely a few people might feel that he really should be there, but in general? Probably the usual fear of stepping on soulful toes but he evidently doesn't mean that much to most of us (not including myself in that number, just to reiterate).
Anyway, I'm probably thinking too hard about this. I would say, however, that someone like XTC should be on there, regardless of whether or not four people vote them off. The amount of real affection and interest they spark is evident - every time a thread is started on them, it's almost guaranteed to reach at least 3 pages.
Oh and Bleep's first suggestion should be taken on board too.
