I'm taking Muskrat's last post as confirmation, so at least there's 4 of us (5 as Pillowz might drop in). That's probably enough to remove the "tentative" but I'll wait a bit to see if there's more response.

Goldwax is out. But we seem to have at least 4 or 5 folks committed, so I've removed the 'tentative' tag. See you Saturday!

I told Dave about my kid situation on Saturday, but that I still might show up. Then I googled where this place was and it's an hour from where I live. I would also be coming from South Central because I've got Saturday school - so it would actually be a two hour drive for me to get there.

So there's that.

I appreciate that you would even consider it, Matt. But South Central to Newbury Park - particularly on a Saturday - is closer to an hour than two.

Not to deny it's a long way, and as I said, I totally understand if anyone doesn't want to make the trip. But we're not as far as you think. I work in the valley, and see my mom in East Hollywood at least once a week. The only time it seems like a really far drive is during weekday rush hour.

Next JU can be in the north valley - lots of good spots there too. Just thought this was worth doing once.

Let me see what can be done over here. I will probably have to remain a "maybe" till near the time.

Is there any chance we could accomplish a sync-listen of KISS - Music From The Elder? at this event?

It's 59 miles, Dave - don't think I'd make it there closer to an hour.

But we'll see.

Hope you will all make it. I will be there by two, probably holding up the bar. Looking forward to it.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the current light rain lifts - and if not, who finds it daunting.

Will Dave, it’s almost 3 PM and you’re not here. So much for holding up the bar at 2 PM.

I'm thinking we can rule the second-ever Ventura County JU a success! TG and Cath and Muskrat were there when I got there, and after brief consideration of sitting outside (it was no longer raining but still a bit cold and wet), we commandeered a corner table and held court once Quaco and Lady Q showed up (2:45 or so). Drinks and food were enjoyed, and then Matt showed up after realizing he was at the wrong Brendan's (which will become part of JU lore just like Goldwax's no-show for the place he insisted on). Finally Pillowz showed on the later end, as she was getting her hair did.

Topics of discussion included Smile vs. Pet Sounds (can't remember the final vote, but it was pretty close to even), songs vs. albums, and the new location of old LA JU hangout the Cat and Fiddle (which was a proposed location for next LA JU).

There were pictures taken, so hopefully they will be posted here soon. I just made this one public, so here's a teaser:

Let us not forget that Todd surprised everyone there by coming up with the names of two members of Gentle Giant! I suspect he was more surprised than anyone.

A grand time and, as always, wonderful to catch up with everyone.

Something particularly funny about the Gentle Giant thing. On our way up the freeway, Heidi and I thought of a couple things it would be funny to bring up, a) to annoy everyone, or b) to get things going. One was just to start in with some Gentle Giant talk and see what happens. We figured people might remember a couple things about them or have seen them, but one thing we specifically said was that no one would say anything about the forgotten older brother Phil Shulman. So it was particularly funny when, first of all, Todd had actually interviewed them, and then came up, totally unprompted, with the name Phil Shulman!

Kudos to Catherine, too, for actually having three GG albums! She is a keeper, Tom. (Even if those albums aren't.)

Great to see everyone, especially Matt "edible licorice thong" Wilson.
