I've mentioned this before here, but this was the greatest rock and roll bar on earth, frequently. They more or less survived a move about a decade ago. I stopped by in September, as I do everytime I'm in Tokyo, to discover that they will be done in November.
I decided then and there I would be there
for the closing night. This was the bar of my twenties. It holds a special place in my heart. The best music, the most fun, the worst girls, the cheapest drinks, the loudest room, the smokiest air, the grimiest surfaces, the latest after parties, the most insane fights, and the most remarkable stories; I learned to love dive bars here.
I will miss that red and white Stone's tongue beacon. If anybody else is in Tokyo tonight and tomorrow - I'll buy you a beer and we'll listen to Lou Reed's live Sweet Jane once more and pretend we're twenty-two again.
RIP Stone.
