Cat & Fiddle closing 12/15

Postby Quaco » 20 Oct 2014, 18:37

The landlords found someone who is willing to pay twice as much, so the 30-year-old institution will have to move. Apparently, they ARE going to look for a new place and go from there, so it's not a permanent close, but that location had something about it too.

I'll never get even close to LA before December 15.

We certainly have to have at least one more JU there. Perhaps a Christmas JU or something.

I was thinking the same thing. If there's any way we could get some visitors down (or over...or across...or whatever) that would be even better.

December 15th is a Monday, btw, so the last weekend would be the 13th and 14th.

Indeed. Maybe we can even coax some of our less frequent but still local LA JU attendees to come out.

How many JUs have we had there? It has to a dozen or more.

Just out of curiosity I looked at flights for the weekend of the 7th, and they're not too expensive...

Some obfuscation from the property owner. Being a landlord, chances are he's lying.

There's also a rumor that the Jack in the Box across the street is being torn down to make room for that new Hollywood standby the "mixed use" building, so they'll be looking for a space.

"[Owner] Ashlee Gardner has been a very good tenant, and this wasn't a decision we made lightly. The problem is, when looking at their sales history, we simply didn't have confidence that they could pay rent that was even close to market value."

"We began having conversations with them six months ago, to give them plenty of time to relocate. It's a bitter pill to swallow, and not something we wanted to do, but we have investors too, and that's why tough decisions have to get made."

For now, Shannon and his LLC group are laying low, waiting for a new lease agreement to be finalized and dust to settle before announcing the next tenant. He did say this, though: "We're going to pour several million dollars into this project, to take things back to the 1920's, the way it originally was. We're using photographs to really give back that feel."
Things that a fella can't forget...

Probably not going to happen, though.

This is getting close. Anyone up for a drink before they are gone? Only two weekends left. I'm out this Sunday but probably can make most other weekend times. Anyone else?

I had forgotten about it and then got busy, but I will have my Burbank gig the next two Saturdays, so if anything happens, I can at least drop by.

Sorry I missed this weekend -- too crazy. I'd like to do this. Either day next weekend would work for me. Or we could brave the Monday night madness!

Monday would be out for me - I work Monday nights. Not sure what my band rehearsal schedule for this weekend is but I'd love to make one last visit. Whatever the schedule is I'm sure I can make this work somehow.

How many JUs have we had there? It must number in the dozens.

I'm afraid I can't do Sunday daytime after all. For me, Saturday day would be the one.

Looks like there is going to be a send-off party on Saturday 12/13, from 4:00 on, featuring Miranda Lee Richards and The Quarter After (acoustic). I talked to the lady and she said it will crazy, but that it has been crazy every night for the last few weeks. Anyway, could be fun.

**

Tom, are you going to see John Wicks/The Records on Thursday? Are they a group you like(d)?

I have rehearsal on Sunday afternoon so it's Saturday for me, as well. Is anyone up for this?

Are The Records the band that did Starry Eyes? I remember that song. I have plans for Thursday so can't do that.

Yeah, that was the band. Some really great power pop.

I'm up for Saturday afternoon, what the hell. Anybody else, please come!

(Oh no, now we have to pick a new place ... )
