LA JU at Pickwick/Woodland Hills 2PM Sunday 9/21

Postby TG » 18 Aug 2014, 17:05

Since it seems that no one is visiting our fair region this summer; shall we have our own "locals only" JU? Somewhere in LA? A return visit to our friends and neighbors just up the coast?

Anybody up for this? Maybe in the next few weeks? Anyone?

Definitely! Though September is better for me personally.

I'm in! September's better for me too, though. Busy every day this weekend then out of town next.

Saturday nights I'm gigging in Burbank, so anywhere in LA should be fine, I'd just have to leave by 6 or so.

I'm of course very happy to meet up somewhere in Ventura County again, and could suggest some places near me, but LA's fine too.

I'm happy to take another drive north but I suspect we might get more attendees if we stay closer to the usual haunts. I have a gig August 30 and a previous engagement on September 20. We ought to be able to get something together for early September.

What about the weekends of September 6/7 or 13/14? Saturday's are probably generally better but we've done Sundays before.

My preference is a Sunday, unless we want to continue the JU at my gig (we did that once).

I'm not playing on the 6th, so I'll probably want to stick around home then, so I vote for the 14th (or 13th if a Saturday's better), but whatever works best for everyone.

I'm going to be at the Al Stewart/John Wicks house concert on the 14th (roughly 4/7 p.m.), but I'm sure you can carry on without me if you settle on that date. In fact, driving to L.A. twice on the same weekend is probably more than I can handle.

I prefer to wait until the most people can make it, so maybe we should rule out that weekend if it's not good for you.

The 20th or 21st is OK for me, though my gig on the 20th will also be a birthday party for a bandmate, so I'd have a strong preference for a Sunday if we do it then.

(EDIT: Just saw TG's out for the 20th, so that's out. Just as well.)

And the 6th or 7th is not ideal, but do-able. Ultimately whatever works for the most people, I'll manage.

People might not want to come north again -- at least not so soon -- but what do you have in Camarillo or TO?

Quaco and lady Q and I headed to Brendan's Irish pub after the Ventura JU last time, and it was pretty good- comfortable with lots of room and plenty of food and drink selection. Only disadvantage is no patio. But there are patio restaurants in Old Town. If people wanted to come here, that would be great for me, obviously, and Pillowz would join us too I'm sure. But Matt Wilson made it pretty clear last time he wouldn't come to Ventura, so I presume the same's true for Camarillo.

Thousand Oaks (or Agoura) might be a good compromise, but I don't really know either place that well. I could do some research if people want, though.

If it does end up being up here, then my vote for the 6th or 7th grows even stronger. Last weekend I can stay in town for, probably, the rest of the year.

I just thought I'd bump this to see if we can gain any new interest from any locals.

As long as it's here in LA, I'm in. You guys just pick a place and I'll try to make it.

I vote for the 21st if it's going to be in LA, that way I can stay local on the 6th and 7th (I already have some tentative plans). But whatever works best for all (and gets the most people there).

So where at? May I, for maximum convenience for all involved, suggest somewhere in the glorious San Fernando Valley?

There was some English pub type joint we went to one time about a year ago. I don't know the valley well but I remember this place. Seems as good as any.

I suspect you mean this place:

http://thefoxandhounds.com/

I liked it, and would be OK with it, my only problem is it's a crowded part of town with really tough parking.

This is completely self-serving, of course, but I'd rather go farther west. There are a few pubs in the Woodland Hills area. I could suggest some if people are willing.

If the consensus is Fox and Hounds, however, I'm fine with that.

The place we went last time (Dave, you remember that we went to Freakbeat then came back) was King's Head (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-kings-head-ii-studio-city), the sister pub of the one in Santa Monica.

There's also Robin Hood pub (http://www.yelp.com/biz/robin-hood-brit ... erman-oaks) in Sherman Oaks, which I go to sometimes and has a very nice feeling to it. I'd love to try that with you folks.
