September sounds like a great month.

Almost as good as February on South Island sounds.....

I'm going to the Mermaid in November with some friends again.

I would suggest that if we're serious about booking this place in September 2013 that we should be looking to get it organised asap. By Jan of this year virtually all of summer 2012 was booked up already.

The rough cost of booking the Mermaid for September will be in the region of £4000-4500 or so, roughly £125 for a stay that is from Friday evening to Monday morning. They require a 25% deposit payment upfront and then the rest of the payment 10 weeks before the date itself. So, if we're going to do it, then I would suggest that a payment of around £50 pp will be in order, followed by the rest of the payment in the summer of 2013. Or, if you wish, pay the full amount upfront immediately.

I'm happy to liaise with the owner with regard to this booking because I've stayed there before.

I might also add that the number of people staying at the venue is strictly limited to 36, but that doesn't stop people from attending celebrations if they perhaps stay in either Leek or Buxton. The venue itself is an affordable taxi ride in a people carrier from both towns.

The venue itself consists of a massive kitchen, a pub (you need to bring your own booze), a big lounge room (good for watching DVDs), a very big dining room (useful for holding all those JU CDs that will be produced I'm sure) and is the perfect space for a gathering of this occasion - remote, but with stunning countryside views and the fact that you can do what you want.

Strikes me we've already done a sign-up thread.

Are you happy to take £50 deposits by Paypal Toby?.... and then refund them if we've not got enough interest and it doesn't go ahead?

I'd rather it be done straight to my account because paypal charge fees for the transferral of money to your bank.

I don't really want to get on with this just yet until we have at least 25-30 peeps committed to going.

Thing is people will say they're going to go then, if they've not made any financial commitment, just won't bother or will do something else at the last minute.

Paypal/bank transfer whichever. I just think people need to put their money where their mouths are.

It's still over a year away, but I think some sort of commitment does need to be made soonish.

So what do you want us to do -start a sign up and then set a date for when to get the money to you by?

I'd like to see some sign of interest and commitment to the venue. At the moment only 3 people are showing a definite interest.

So get on the sign up and once there's enough people on there I'll start hassling people for the money.

In the next few days I'll move this to the announcements bit so we can publicise it a bit more.

CatnHat and I were talking about this on Monday. We're thinking we'll probably drive down and get a place to stay in Buxton for a night, rather than doing the whole three-day thing.

We can come along for an afternoon/evening celebration, something like that.

I can't believe you're making your excuses this far ahead Nick! Get your name down for the night -I doubt it will go on as long as three days anyway.
