Speaking of shirts, this is the first trip I've made in a long time that didn't include any t-shirt purchases.
The only place I gave it any thought at all was at the Waterloo Icehouse and that's only because Yves was outside smoking and I had a few minutes to ponder such a thing. I did buy a Waterloo Records bumper sticker which I'll either hold onto as a backup to the one I have on the Volvo or I'll put it on the Vauxhall next to my "Keep Austin Wierd" sticker I bought 5 years ago.

I can't not buy t-shirts. Though my husband did make a request that I not buy him any on this trip as he has more than enough t-shirts.
As if there could be such a thing.

Excellent comp Yves. When I listened to it the other day for the first time I could have swore there was a ZZ Top song towards the end of the disc. That might have been the N.M.A Even though I knew we had similar tastes in music, after talking to you in person I realised that we are a lot closer than I thought. I'm digging Julie Miller's Blue Pony btw. I can see why it's a favorite of yours.

Glad you liked it, Les. Yes, we have a lot in common and I suspect Charlie O would have fit right in too.
I only got 3 JU comps. Fish, Rita and yours.
I'll start to listen tomorrow after I had some decent sleep. For now it's two hours here and there, nothing like normal sleep yet.

I listened to Livet's JU cd yesterday. Well done m'lady. It was nice to throw in a little Hendrix and Montrose into the mix for us progaholics. The disc had a nice flow to it and I liked the spacey vibe it. I've never heard that version of Eight Miles High so that was cool. I think I like everyone's version of that song. Regardless of what the real story is about the lyrics, it's still a drug song to me. :)

Next up is Baron's. I've heard it once but it blind sided me with it's eclectic mix so I need to listen again to see what's REALLY going on.

I'm on the Fish's- which is great so far. Lovet the TV Slim and Elmore James, and "Mary Lee Jones" might be my favorite solo Buckingham song.

I've also dipped into the Baron's and Shadeaux's. Hopefully I'll have a chance to hear them all this weekend.

Noblesse oblige so I had to start with the Fish's. He's been the master of the JU disc for years now. Perhaps next time I'll get him to sign my copy they're that good.
And, despite the uninspired title, he delivered again.
John Boden didn't do it for me and I wonder what the Dells were doing on it. I never liked later period Mac much and the Buckingham song proves once again they're not for me.
Otherwise AA+.

I also enjoyed our prog lovin' Rita's comp. As been said before, it was a good idea to throw some Hendrix, Montrose and Trower in. The only one that got on my nerves was Nik Turner.
Knew the Church and Icicle Works but was pleasantly surprised by the Porcupine Tree and Pressure Head tracks. I suppose Slowdrive = Slowdive?
AA.

Six String's tomorrow. Looks very promising.

Hello! I promise to get the pics up this weekend; we've been very busy. There's some great photos.

I should also get a youtube account so I can upload the videos of the bats flying out from under the bridge, and also of The Fish's now-famous dance to "Blue Suede Shoes."

You mean his dance to "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go," right? He tried to convince us it was BSS, but we know better! ;)

I listened to The Fish's comp this morning. Another fine creation on your part Paul. I salute you. I can always depend on you mixing in some artists I haven't heard anything by or others I know but didn't know these songs. One thing I've really enjoyed through your comps are the Dan Penn songs. I only have his live album with Spooner so hearing these other songs and in a more fleshed out form is a treat.

I listened to The Baron's again yesterday. It hangs together better than I thought after the first listen. I'm not sure why. Maybe I was expecting more country music and my brain didn't make the adjustment very well.
I'm all better now. :D I need a track list Brother M. I'm not recognizing much of anything and I like a lot of it so help me out. What's with the Happy Birthday song at the end?

Then I had to buy a car so I couldn't blow $600 or whatever it would've taken me to get up to speed for that. Then it was going to be Doug Sahm/Sir Doug but Charlie O was gonna come and he would be the go to guy for that. Then Charlie O backed out but Yves bought the box set so . . . you get a grab bag of my favorite things. Lucky you. Track commentary to follow.

BARON'S AUSTIN 09 THING

1. ALVIN CASH & THE CRAWLERS "Twine Time"
2. SPADE COOLEY "Steel Guitar Rag"

Glad you dig it, Les! I really like the stretch from the Sir Douglas to the Alton Ellis. The beginnings and endings are a bit disjointed, I'm afraid. The other thing that fed into this was my minor obsession with older jazz and country music (which came out of or led to the western swing era), so there's a hodge podge of that sort of thing at the end. The Kid Ory track sticks out like a sore thumb, I'm afraid. I'll say more when I'm feeling more expansive.

I've enjoyed the other JU comps and have been more receptive to them than I have in the past. But they're at my office and I only listen to them quietly. I'll have to bring them home and blow them out a bit.

My mom is in the Baylor senior choir and they practice at a Baptist church in Waco. Recently there was a buzz and a bunch of security blocking most exits in and out of the church on their practice day. It seems that Willie Nelson's "stage manager" (my mom's terminology so who knows his real relation) had died and the private funeral was being held there. They didn't want any fans/rubber neckers crawling around the place to see Willie so they kept the entrance/exits to a minimum. I asked my mom if she knew who Billy Joe Shaver was because he lives in town and she said, "yeah, he's in the paper all the time, getting in fights in bars and stuff like that. Didn't one of them die?" I said yeah his son died several years ago. Made me want to see if I can find him while I'm there next week. I haven't had a good ass wuppin' in a long time.

Look three entries down. Poodie.

"At Locke's funeral in Waco on Monday, Billy Joe Shaver sang "Live Forever" and Ray Wylie Hubbard performed "Amazing Grace" on the slide guitar. Ables said about 1,000 people attended."

BTW, last time I heard, Billy Joe was under felony indictment. See him if he's playing!
