The JAM vs The POLICE

It's the Battle of the post-Punk Three Piece!
And quite conveniently, their careers very nearly co-incide exactly.

Who's the best?
...I'm undecided. Gonna sleep on it.

Who's gonna win?
...I know damn well who's the more fashionable of the two round these parts.
At least, I think I do.

Let's see.

I find it unbelievable that anyone could prefer The Police to The Jam .
I can't think of any possible reason for having such a preference.

Is this some kind of joke?

Ok, the Police had a few decent singles. But really.

Now there's a joke. And a very funny one, I'm sure you'll agree.

Apart from the songs, the vocals, the playing, the singles, the albums, it's gotta be The Jam.

The Police albums are very lightweight indeed. They may have been a good singles band....never to my taste, but I can tell good pop when I hear it; but the albums , certainly the ones with daft titles, were shit. Their last album , Synchronicity , was the only one on which any effort was expended, and it tore them apart. I doubt they made any records as good as the the Jam....( excepting the gift of course)
You don't like me...do you?

Technically they were better musicians yes..not really surprising as they were about 15 years older. But it hardly makes their records better than The Jam.

I voted!

Not a big fan of either band, but 'Message in a Bottle' is tops. And 'Walking On The Moon' isn't far behind. Plus there was none of that tedious hectoring.

They had plenty of clunkers in the back catalogue, you know.

Also - could the Jam do something as artfully subtle as Tea in the Sahara?
No chance.

I've got an incurable nostalgic attachment to 'Outlandos d'Amour' but The Jam definitely have the longevity.
