I'm looking at Thursday to Monday. I thought the Days Inn looked very good. Granted, it's a little pricey, but it is Chicago. They do offer many different rates depending if you want a single, double, queen, king, two doubles, etc., so keep that in mind.

Thursday through Monday sounds good, though I am considering staying through Tuesday.

I'm also willing to be a roommate, if anyone wants one. I'm pretty easy going, don't snore (I think) and am polite, happy to read quietly when someone's trying to sleep. I am an evening person, so this may not work for someone who's up & dressed by 8 a.m. Let me know if anyone's interested, it'll save us both money, which I may need since I'm doing other trips in '07.

Nasty Old Giraffe wrote:i finish work on friday 25 may and have the week off work so if i did come it would be saturday 26 to maybe thursday 31 may*. my housemate is from chicago and has just had a mate over here visiting. i was discussing this with him last night and he offered me a berth on his floor in central chicago which makes the whole thing a lot more do-able.

*it's not inconceivable that i might be able to arrange an unpaid day off work on the 25th and so get there sometime on the friday.

edit: hmm. £430 for direct flights on expedia getting me into chicago late morning on the friday. assuming i can get the friday off, this is very tempting indeed.

That sounds very promising. I hope you can make it, Andy! It shall be a blast and a half.

I'm thinking myself and the gang will drive up on Friday, and probably drive back on Monday. It's a 6 hour drive up, so if we leave early enough, I can make an event or two.

I found a nice article not too long ago on some museums in Chicago that aren't the usual suspects. See below.

I'm still up for this, but haven't done much in the way of figuring out travel and accommodations. I used to know some people in the Windy Apple, but alas, time is cruel and our paths diverged, so it's the ol' hotel for me.

Fingers crossed!

having once had you as a guest, i'm not at all surprised about this, john.

That was an anomalous blip on the otherwise spotless radar screen of my life!

Me too. Might help make up for the loss of the Bear and the Fish from last year.

How about other UKers who've expressed interest? C.Whore? Pete the Pick?

And who's in again from last year? Shagger Dave? T. Berry? Velvis? Lots of people not checked in yet, and now it really is getting close!

And if I may be presumptuous, I imagine the people that live there will be able to make at least part of it!

(I haven't added Geoff Cowgill 'cause he hasn't been on much, and he doesn't actually live in the city. But hopefully he'll commit soon.)

It's a safe bet. As it stands, the Days Inn looks like the best option. I live about 45 minutes outside of the city, so I'll likely stay downtown with everyone else.

Unless you all want to sleep in Aurora.

There's a small chance I'll make it, but the latter part of last year was pretty dicey financially. Right now I'm saying no, but we'll see.

He looks like the lost Rolling Stone, doesn't he? A bit David Johanson-esque.

I'm still hoping to be there. I can't imagine not being there. I've probably gone from a no with an outside chance of a yes, to a yes with a slim chance of a no. Put me in the yes camp for now. I just need to work out how to finance the trip.

You were drunk??

I'm totally excited now. I can't wait to get Andy knackered and take advanta...(oops) That's a joke, by the way

I thought of something. At the London Jollys, there is usually a collection to help Jethro with the site. Could we do the same in Chicago and place someone in charge of getting it to our wonderful site director??
