Top 50 Songs!

Postby Bungo the Mungo » 09 Apr 2006, 00:15

I'm going for it. It's time!

I think we all enjoy something like this - some kind of poll, or competition. It lends an air of importance to the boards, I think. Bleep's album poll and Tapioca's cup were exciting. And we all love lists.

So - your all-time top 50 songs - they can be album tracks, singles (A or B-sides), anything that was officially released, in fact. Song title, and artist. If the version you're voting for is not the most well-known, then specify where it comes from.

I can't think of any further rules. Post them here - it's slightly easier to collate, and people are interested. There's no need for anything to be kept secret, anyway.

You have until May 1st - that's plenty time. Those who participated in the Cup have a head start with shortlists of at least 10. I should have collated the results about a week afterwards.

Get cracking! (mine to follow shortly)

It doesn't leave a lot of time, but with 50 tracks it's just not possible to be as precious as you would be with an albums list, so you are right to keep it tight.

Count me in.

Yes - just to simplify things.

I'd be chuffed if five get in there. I mean, how many songs do we have to choose from? Millions.

It'll be interesting to see if any two lists chosen randomly contain any of the same songs.

That's why we need loads of lists - otherwise I won't be able to compile any meaningful results.

Would you consider changing the rule to include any song, whether it was officially released or not? There are a couple of unreleased tracks I'm thinking about including in my list. Unreleased songs are just as much songs as released ones. A song is a song, and whether it was released or not is artistically irrelevant.

after the bcb cup, i'm all listed out.

i'd much prefer a slimmed down list (say 20?) with the reason why it's a favourite, as the reason is as interesting as the choice, for me. and does it have to be a poll?

...just a thought.
