Postby R Swipe » 02 Jul 2005, 09:32

Well, are you?

I'm quite looking forward to Pink Floyd, myself - if only to confirm that that particular brand of music is (indeed) dead.

Why aren't Led Zeppelin reforming? Ha Ha.

Seriously, Beyonce might be cool.

I'm gutted that Muse are playing Paris instead. They're the only band i'd watch apart from Pink Floyd and Velvet Revolver...Bono can stick his Beatles impression up his pompous, pampered backside.

Amen.
My opinion is the only one that counts, though that's not my opinion.

Not if Pink Floyd do the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb.

That line-up really is dire - it's exclusively comprised of people who made their last good record at least a decade ago, and those who never will make a good record.

And, given that Geldof excused the almost total lack of black British artists by saying that none of are well-known enough internationally (and only including Ms Dynmaite as a token gesture under pressure), how the fuck did sodding Razorlight and Snow Patrol sneak in there.

Toss on toast. An insult.

Erm, well that is a surprise.

I actually think I might watch it.
It doesn't look half as appalling as it might, or half as appealing as it might for that matter, but there are interesting things on there even if they are noyt likely to be very musically inspiring.

I want to see Adam Clayton dressed up in a Pepper outfit having the chutzpah to play bass on the same stage as McCartney.

I want to see Pete Doherty and Elton cosying up.

I want to see the thinly veiled contempt between Rog and Dave (pic in the paper yesterday - they have turned into Waldorf and Staler) possibly erupting into violence.

I want to see Joss Stone, because I like her.
And Madonna.
And Ms Dynamite
And Keane
And REM.

So bollocks to you bunch of mean-spirited arseholes.

Any chance anybody could tape it from 4:15 onwards?

I'll just borrow the tape - copy it and you can have it back.

Nice one.

I am very excited to be seeing Pink Floyd once again and also to study their body language: ever the optimist, I think if it goes well, then a reunion is on the cards. And for me, anyway, Coldplay with Richard Ashcroft is going to be well worth a look as well.

I am already aware that there is widespread poverty in Africa, so I think I will give this one a miss.

What time is it starting over there?

Coverage doesn't start here until 12 noon. I'll watch until I have to go to work.

Coverage is on now - the UK concert starts at 2 pm. We've had McFly and Good Charlotte from Tokyo.

Call me mean-spirited, but I'm sick of it already. It reminds me that the dark side of Live Aid was the massive escalation of the idea that celebrities like Sting or Bono have something intelligent and meaningful to say about major political issues.

Michael Buerke, who reported the original famine in Ethiopia in 1984 that triggered Live Aid and who is now best known as the host of Mastermind is on at the London site saying it is his first experience of 'Direct Action'.

'Direct Action'?????? Turning up for a free live rock show after snagging tickets on your mobile????? Agreeing to promote your back catalogue by flying in via helicopter to play 2-3 tunes to a televised audience of billions???

It boggles the mind. It really does.

Graham Norton is interviewing Jon Bon Jovi, who is running through his planned setlist and discussing the social relevance of each of his songs.

I am getting a heavy, queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach.
