Utterly predicatable, most influential claptrap.

Postby Diamond Dog » 26 Oct 2004, 17:37

Further to my post on Griff's "I'm having one of those moments" thread - augmented by Matt Wilson's suggestion- here's a starter for the albums most frequently cited as influential/favourite, but which are there just because people think it's 'the done thing'. Of course, they don't know it yet, but they will.

The list so far:

Pet Sounds
Revolver
Forever Changes
Village Green Preservation Society.

You get the idea - carry on.
Nicotine, valium, vicadin, marijuana, ecstasy, and alcohol -
Cocaine

Anything by Sonic Youth.
I still find it hard to believe anyone would listen to them for enjoyment.

In the context of their time only Revolver could be described as predictable.

Good shot. Everyone knows "Sticky fingers" is far superior.

How about "Bitches Brew"?

it's nowhere near as good as the other three though.

Behave yourself. I'll give you Revolver, the other two are no better than good in my book.

And Sticky Fingers better than Exile? Honestly? Bah!

Queen "made it possible for rock music to mix with the pomp and bombast of opera and classical", according to one review I read a while back.
Maybe they did, but it still sounds like someone wanking into a bucket.

Great shout on Exile..

I like Astral Weeks, but I can't see it as this masterpiece which towers over everything else.

LZ III shits all over LZI, II, and IV. It's still not as good as Bitches Brew though.

I love 'em all. Fuck everybody, I don't give a damn.

Actually, I'll take this opportunity to reiterate my opposition to LZII and Presence.
