I knew you'd like it
yeah, I didn't want to push to hard that economically there probably isn't that much separating you and Goog.
It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

Why does he deserve it?

I don't think he "deserves" it as such but in my point of view I think he knows full well that he's being provocative a lot of the time.

I think John and others go overboard too often but I do think Googa's posting is frequently annoying and I struggle to have much sympathy for someone who has spent a considerable amount of time posting xenophobic and Islamophobic bile on the board.

I really doubt that GM buys CDs in his thrift store forays simply to be provocative.

And Mr Coan posted this little bit of bigoted nonsense on the Europeans thread -

Can you imagine if GM had used a word like Spic?

But I do appreciate you actually answering the question.

I think part of him posts about them here with that in mind, and he has a history of saying he'll tone down his posting only to return a week later with a dozen new threads about crud he knows nobody here will be interested in. I think he simply wants the attention. Whether that means he deserves all the name-calling is a different matter.

I think the difference is that people know Coan isn't being serious in saying it, however much we disapprove of the joke. If you've read Googa's wild rantings about Islam, then you can see a clear difference.

maybe...

Goog was always clear that he was fearful, he rarely if ever resorted to hate speech. So if we are giving John constant passes on his provocations( in word and deed) then Goog deserved the same. Tolerance runs both ways.

I don't think Googa gets a particularly hard time on here. Only with John really and he seems to quite enjoy the bickering. He threw his toys out of the pram over something silly and flounced, but it happens...a few of us have done that. It's all this wringing of hands afterwards that's so ridiculous.

We see what we want to see. Coan is 'liked' by many more posters than GM but if you really look at it their posts are very similar. Coan's pals excuse it therefore are complicit in his attacks on GM.
Of course, many of them are quite overt, holding John's coat and backing him up at every chance

Great to see you back, K - I meant to say. You really give so much to the board! :)

I think some of them did have a go at him unnecessarily yeah. At the same time if you have someone who lacks any kind of self-awareness and doesn't give any thought about the way his posting is going to be received, it's almost a recipe for conflict. This board is about communication and if you're not good at reading how your posts are going down, indeed are almost willfully impervious to it, then there's going to be problems.

true, but it doesn't help when it is received by people who use c*nt as hello

I think his attitude to the board is terrible, but don't comment about it a lot. It isn't about what he buys or posts about - some on here would rate some of my taste lower than his, I expect. It is the approach to the forum that is making it a little less enjoyable.

I assume you mean Goog, he didn't come here with an attitude, but constantly being harassed can definitely sour one's attitude, wouldn't you agree?

The 'forgiving' folk put that lack of awareness down to his Aspergers (something that we're always reluctant to address directly). But he's aware of what he does, and I would find it hard to accept that he's unaware of the reaction he'll get to 'I've torn a CD cover'.

So then you get to be the entertaining monkey with the bully organgrinder who just has to constantly harass?!
