Thrift shop scores
Sticking my neck out once again with a little 50 pence thrift shop score, Ace of Base, the 90s singles comp. Cod reggae-dance-eurotrash well worth the coin. The Sign is the biggest thing on there, with an irresistible, mystifying beat. So were they really the ABBA of the 90s? I know they helped make Sweden the world's no. 3 music exporter. Harmless fluff, they paid attention in ABBA class.

I certainly don't hate 'em. Majorly flimsy, which - perversely - may be a virtue in their case.

Pretty solid choruses and some of those beats are really original. The party stops with this comp, though.

Oh, I would agree that they don't give you a TON to work with over time...

Googa, a thread based on your charity shop finds might be better than one for each one you get.

Sorry. I'll change the heading and make it ongoing.

Cash Converters seems like a cool place. Better selection than my thrift shops, where weeks can go by without my finding anything. And £1 is just right for that kind of stuff. BRMC and MacAloon are good picks!

You don't miss a trick!
I only found out a few weeks back that it's worth money - a friend of mine deals in used CD's and let me know. I won't be selling my pristine copy.

Re: Thrift shop scores
Not a risky purchase today, I knew Dario Campeotto was one of the great crooners in Denmark in the 1950s.
His old hit, "Angelique" is here, along with covers as diverse as Barry White and Lou Reed. All in that unmistakeable crooner style, married to modern beats. Yes, it works. I mean, one look at the cover art, and you just know this will be cool as fuck. 50 pence bargain!

NOT AVAILABLE ON AMAZON! Definitive 2cd fatboy package, £1. All the hits are here and more still. Roger Whittaker is the squarest, with the most microphone friendly voice that I have ever heard. Not the best singer, but the most microphone friendly. And he is the world's foremost whistler. He is also the ultimate Anglo-Saxon person, the most Anglo of Anglos. He just had to be reissued on the Philips label, didn't he! I don't care if he is a major bell-end, there are hits here to die for, hits that will make your old mother swoon and maybe even weep.

Jesus Christ - Roger Fucking Whittaker!! They'd have to pay me to take that.

Those were my exact words in my head when I picked it up. I've resisted him all these years, but he reminds me of my childhood, a favorite of mother's.

Found this in one of the bins at Goodwill today for a buck, opened but still in its shrink wrap:
The actual vinyl, of course, was nowhere to be found.
