Wow! Incredible stuff, nine tracks in, and it is all jaw-droppingly good. Highlight: "Emergency".

Right up there with your John Legend, Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo, etc.

And after that brief burst of sobriety...

Will you honestly listen to all that, Googa? The Shakatak, Sailor, 3 Chris Rea, Ray Dee Oh, Alberte albums, all the way through? Serious question. Do you ever listen to things more than once?

You know there's bona fide quality on the list, as for the lesser items, sure, I love variety, especially at 24 pence. If I ever run out of space, I can cull and trade in at 50 pence per disc. Sailor, okay, just for a laugh. Chris Rea, underrated, a bit Dire Straits-like, but cooler, with a keen sense of melody. The Danish stuff you can't really comment on, without having heard it.

Two or three years ago an American member posted that he had decided to stop spending two or three hors a night downloading music to which he would never listen. I was aghast. I could not understand why he was doing such a thing anyway.

All my LPs and CDs receive multiple plays, even just to confirm that I don't get them/still don't like them.

some are growers of course, and some are just pleasant background music. I tend to ration the best stuff, so it doesn't get stale. At any rate, it takes me years to cycle through the whole collection.

I'd have left all of that behind except the J Cash & the Ramones.

How large is your cd collection, roughly? You are missing out on some good pop.

CD collection is several thousand. Many more LPs, 45s and 78s. I'm much more about quality than quantity. I leave tons of stuff behind on my many thrift store runs. I refuse to spend very much time listening to things that might be good. There is so much great music that I'm missing that I can't spend a load of time with the merely good.

So quantitatively, we are about the same, then. I've said it before, my shopping is three-tiered, thrift/flea - accord - amazon. I can't expect to find much Cash or Ramones stuff for 24 pence. But I can still get hours of enjoyment. Variety is of the utmost importance to me.

GM has no passion for music. He is an obsessive, perhaps addictive collector of compact discs.

Also, you are in LA, bound to find more great stuff cheap.

John, it takes some degree of passion to put in as many hours as I do. I'd say I am half passion, half obsessive.

He has a different passion for music than you or I. And there are worse things to collect than CDs, I suppose.
