He has been here today, no doubt to check up how his latest bout of attention seeking is going down. I am sure that finding a new ally in Foxhound will have made his day. a whole debate of how victimised and wronged he is will have given him his biggest boner ever.Cult Cola's all round.

interesting to me, how some people insist on seeing this as either/or. "oh you are either pro-him and anti-us!! or yer pro-us and anti-him!!!"

where have all the brains gone, long time passing?

or maybe it's a relative scale of kinda sucky to really sucky behavior on the part of both sides, with people making a call on what is worse or more extreme, in this particular case... ya knowwww, as opposed to some fifth grade all out condemnation in black and white of the GOOD people versus the BAD people.

cuz frankly, that's pretty mindless.

lemme illustrate a party idea again, while i'm here. even though there is no way you will listen to me on this, either. just becuz i care.

if i walked into a house party of, oh, i dunno, 80 people? and i walked into one of the rooms and saw googa sittin in a chair yappin about his music (a chair like this very thread)...

are you still with me?

... and then i saw you, coan and 2 or 3 express googa haters, deliberately make their way into that room... go right up to that chair... and loudly, repeatedly, hurl insults at the man sittin there, essentially every time he opened his mouth?

do you know what i would do if i saw that happening? i would be over there in a hot second to let y'all know exactly what i thought of that behavior. i would be over there even faster if i was counting some among you my friends, and i do. becuz even though i would probably try to save each one of you from a burning building, the way you are acting here is thuggish, juvenile and much more offensive to me than googa's lil lists. this is what a relative scale is.

i am not defending whatever is coming out of his face (although i defend his right to post whatever he wants.)

i am saying that you bunch are acting in a repulsive manner. trying to call it justified or "good for the board" is even worse. and yer damn straight i'm gonna tell you that, becuz each and every one of you should be a helluvalot smarter and better than this bullying, humorless horsecrap.

if you think being honest with you means i am not a friend, not on yer side or not caring at all times, (all of you), then you need to reacquaint yerself with the true meaning of the word idiot.

there. i'm done now with the subject. please do carry on.

Now that Googs has gone to the great thrift shop in the sky it was my turn to inspect the cut out bins.
We lack thrift shops here.

So, for practically no money:

Okay, gang, let's see if you can un-hate my latest accord score. accord is NOT a thrift shop, but still 2nd hand cheapish. Rarities to be found if you browse the lot.

dolly parton - coat of many colors
johnny cash - out among the stars
the best of mountain
danny o'keefe - breezy stories (big discovery for me, only knew "Good Time Charlie's got the Blues")
bobby womack - greatest hits (capitol)
mountain - avalanche
jerry reed - guitar man (camden)
ella fitzgerald - ella swings lightly
pointer sisters - break out
dolly parton - 9 to 5 and odd jobs
solomon burke - proud mary
johnny guitar watson - what the hell is this?

so, danny o'keefe, then - breezy singer songwriter in the al stewart vein, with a few rnr pastiches thrown in for good measure
i'd prefer if he had kept it all breezy, but guy's gotta rock
1966 and all that

At the right price I'd consider buying any of those with the exception of the Dolly Parton ones. Her voice annoys me. And I'd leap at the Solomon Burke, Jerry Reed, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Mountain and Bobby Womack even at a not quite right price, depending upon the format of course.

all cd, superior to, and in most cases, cheaper than vinyl

I'd only heard "Guitar Man" by Elvis, nice to get the original, but Jerry Reed is very much a covers guy.

You then haven't heard any original vinyl played on a good turntable. I suspect you would find it a revelation. And not just vinyl. There was once a sign up at Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum in Toronto "Eight tracks! They're better than CDs."

I enjoyed this exhumed/lost album a lot. If I Told You Who It Was is an annoying novelty dud, typical of mid-89's Billy Sherrill productions, and the Elvis Costello remix track at the end did nothing for me. But that still leaves a solid 11-song album.

The thing that bugs/intrigues me is that it doesn't sound like a Billy Sherrill production from that period. John Carter Cash and Steve Berkowitz shepherded a LOT of tinkering and overdubbing methinks. I really wish they'd issued the original shelved album and the rejigged versions side-by-side for comparison.

But as far as his son is concerned, it's all about dad's voice. Which is understandable.
