Gothic Rock is probably better than the Black book, you can get them both

For pop culture, I would recommend the Faber Book of Pop, edited by Hanif Kureshi and Jon Savage. It's just a collection of piles of articles going back over the last 50 years or so, some on pop starts, some on fashion, some just on culture. Fantastic coffee table book.

In a similar vein, Nick Kent's collection the Dark Stuff contains fantastic articles from Kent's career as a top music journalist.

Currently reading The return Of The Last Gang In Town by Marcus Grey. An excellent Clash biog. They were a fucking shower of smelly hippies before they re-wrote their history, a disclosure on a par with Lennon killing Stu Sutcliffe to some I spose
