She's closer than, as a guess, around 99% of the female population of the UK i.e. close enough.

Deebank's intent is clear - it is you that is being 'obtuse' in your refusal to reply to the (obvious) thrust of the debate.

Back on topic.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and it was very touching that Doreen Lawrence was one of those carrying the flag in.

Watching on iPlayer did I miss Arctic Monkeys? When were they on?
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

We spend 10 billion pounds on a vanity project for Blair and Livingstone, and you are asking me for an opinion on how we pay the queen?

Really?

I'm not following this thread but I came upon this story that the US did not broadcast a part of the opening ceremonies where they honored victims of terrorism.

That's interesting. I can only think NBC thought that section too depressing or something. It reflects very badly on them.

It's this kind of 'reporting' that really pisses me of :

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... horia.html

The headline says that we 'lost' OUR first Gold mdeal.

How exactly can 'we' lose a medal we never actually won? :x

You must be very happy with the way it's turned out then...

Blair briefly on TV for about a minute saying how great it all was and not so much as a glimpse of Ken.

As vanity projects go, wouldn't Seb Coe be a much fairer target for that accusation?
Oh wait, he's a tory

By the time Cameron and co got in, the die was cast. They have not had a choice about making a success of the games. What annoys me is that they get the blame for the whole corporate greed aspect of the games. All these arrangements are made by the IOC. Part of bidding for the games is that you agree to the extortionate demands of the multinationals who do the sponsorship. we agreed to let them exploit us on the day we won the bid. The same with the Olympic lanes.
And Seb Coe is a charmless man. However, all credit to him. We have an Olympic village, finished ahead of time. A successful opening ceremony, and a general public who are clearly excited and interested in the games. Just look at the crowds at the cycle race. Look at the crowds for the relay. Easy to by cynical, but they are voting with their feet.
When Blair decided to bid for these games, I am sure that be believed he would still be PM in 2012. The Iraq war put a stop to that, and Boris put a stop to Corrupt tax dodger Ken. But this was a vanity project, put in place by your beloved Tony and his cronies, designed to elevate him and the enablers into political legends. I hope it really chokes him up when he sees them succeeding whilst he cannot bathe in the reflected glory. Especially after the utter disaster he made of the Millennium Dome project.

The idea was good. Reinvigorate the dockland with a major attraction. It was what they put inside that was so deperately poor. The only reason Blair wanted the dome was so he could invite all his bessie mates to a big tax funded PRIVATE party to see in the Millenium. I think you will agree that the Dome is now an excellent venue, and has bee more that worthwhile. If you have anything positive to say about how it was used in 2000, I will be surprised.
