Unfortunately, now that I do have something to report for June 17th, functionality on this board does not allow me to insert the entry in its rightful place on page 4, but instead means it's appended!

Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham
Billed as a Music & Fun Day, promoted by the RFU, this all-dayer was located within the grounds of a Gothic pile known as Strawberry Hill House, within the St. Mary's College site. I've managed to miss this event in recent years as it coincides with the annual Greek Odyssey, but I made it this time. Primarily showcasing local talent, it was a mixed bag. The Draytones came over as Strokes wannabes, while The Deputies were much more Americana-oriented. Marner Brown are currently tipped as local contenders for the "The Big Time", and were ceratinly useful enough, though not enough to float Swifty / Sledgey's boat. But then he is a fussy git! The BibleCodeSundays were announced as having some connection with the MacManus Brothers, who are oft to be found treading the boards at local hostelries, and themselves are indeed related to one Declan MacManus, late of this parish. So, it was appropriate Celtic fare from this lot, eg., "I'm A London Irishman", diddly-dee etc. Good stuff. The Vibrants took us back to the garage, while Dark Ska gave us Nutty-Boy covers. Unfortunately, in the warm light of day, "One Step Beyond" doesn't quite evoke the frenzied reaction usually forthcoming from yours truly when experienced under the cover of darkness! The Mustangs brough us Rock'n'Roll, but as it was beginning to cool down, me and The Lady decided to quit before bill-topper Tom Nolan and The Bluescasters took to the stage. Still, I've seen Tom loads of times (he's "musical Director" at the Eel Pie Club) so it's not a great loss. I'm certain to see him before too long. A good day out, and the presence of a stall from The Real Ale Shop in Twickenham helped lubricate events. Still, the star of the show was the House itself, which I'd never seen before. All proceeds were going towards its Restoration fund, but it does look grand......
