A late 2011-arrival but I've given it quite a few plays....lightweight, bit dancey but upbeat- unlike as this one:

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Really enjoyed their debut, very reminiscent of Spoon (who they toured with in support of said debut).

Free track to download here:

That free track sounds very promising. Thanks.

I'll be buying Sigur Ros' new one in the spring and will see them live as many times as I can.

Hal are back with an EP and and LP soon.

I'll get the Dirty Projectors one, hopefully it'll be listenable.

And I love of Montreal and think that this single is 2012's first great record. The melody is amazing, sounds like an instant classic to me. iTunes tells me I played it 27 times in a week.

Her previous one was almost there. I bet this is the real breaker.

David Lynch returns with yet another new album only this time he's paired with chanteuse Chrysta Bell and the album is called This Train. I'm cheating a little since it was already released as a MP3 last year and now it's been reissued on CD and vinyl.

Good stuff. If Patsy Cline lived long enough to appear on one of those This Mortal Coil projects it might have sounded something like this.

So, I've heard my first four albums of last year. All have only had a couple of listens but brief comments:

Image

I like this a lot. As others have remarked on here the debut EP suggested a talent but I found something stopped me from loving it. This doesn't have that problem. Great voice, great arrangements.

Image

Promising. Parts of this are "white boy guitar indie rock" by numbers but there are other moments which suggest they have a lot more up their sleeve. I like the vocalist.

Image

Lovely. Gibson's voice is of course key. The record has a very vintage feel to it (if that makes any sense)

Image

I'm not getting anything out of this. I don't hear it as a bad album but there is little to pull me back in.

Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend
Nice ethereal swirly shoegazy stuff, like lots of things that came out last year.

This is worth $5 of anyone's well-earned:

The Loscil mix in particular is wonderful.

Good stuff, that - certainly poppier than the previous record, but works pretty well. Hope it comes across well live next month, as I really don't fancy travelling to Dundee for an average gig...

Porcelain Raft is a grower, with a great last track - do give it a chance if you get it! 4AD are on good form at the moment (Tune-Yards, for example), and I think there is a Mark Lanegan album as well to look forward to this year.

I am currently being thoroughly impressed by this:
