betty wrote:The new Ty Segall sounds pretty great so far! I liked his last album but it was probably a bit too heavy to completely agree with me, this is more garagey again, but still heavy in bits. Mad fuzz bass all over the place. And the songs are mental. Yeah!
Have you heard his collab with White Fence from earlier this year? The album is called Hair and it's probably the best of his 3! albums this year. Listen to "I Am Not a Game" or "Easy Rider" to get an idea. They're easily found on youtube.

Tremendous jangly-guitar sunshine rock. At its best it is a bit like the Thermals. When treading water it is like Ride. Overall, it's possibly the best thing I have heard since Beirut last year.

Moon Duo: Circles
and this is going to end up high on my end of year list too..
Tama Impala: Lonerism
Yep, got the Moon Duo too- with bonus disc! Completely spacing out to High Over Blue- 21 minutes long!
Tame Impala takes a little to sink in- I actually like the Melody's Echo Chamber-album a bit better.
The Tame Impala's really working for me. Need to try the Moon Duo.

Hmm, the Dignan Porch seemed average to ok to me. Didn't really hold my interest.

Re: 2012 - The "I'll buy it" thread for 2012
Over the last week or so I've been sorting through my 2012 releases, preparing a playlist of them, removing the ones that I don't especially like. I have 51 albums on the list.
This will make it easier to pull together my top albums of the year.
Anyway, that is just a backdrop to saying what a good year its been for new music. Some fantastic music in there.

I'm not sure how I missed this one from earlier in the year. Pond - Beard, Wives, Denim.
Some fantastic psych rock from an Australian band that shares a few members with Tame Impala.
It's ridiculously fun! Looser and jammier than Tame Impala it features some of the best band interplay I've heard in a while. It doesn't have the laser sharp melodies that their introverted brother band does nor as strong a vocalist but the music is incredibly and infectiously fun.

I'm a fan of this but had no clue there was a Tame Impala connection - I thought it was a reincarnation of the old Pond, which I never paid much attention to. Never bonded much with Tame Impala but I do like this, maybe because there are closer shades of White Denim/Can. I keep singing God Gave Rock N' Roll to You over the top of You Broke My Cool mind!

Me too. Got the new GY!BE record last week.
Looking forward to hearing some more Ty Segall as well - he is playing Glasgow soon, I'm tempted.
The Tame Impala record is very, very good.

Re: 2012 - The "I'll buy it" thread for 2012
This weeks highlights:
AKA Nigel Godrich & Joey Waronker's exploits with electro and wicked beats. At times, like in this track they get it right, sometimes it buzzes right over.
Harks right back to that era of shoegaze/female fronted indie that had me delirious in the 90s. Sounds quite good overall.
Mr. Interpol sounds mostly like what he has done with his band but when he mixes his sound up a bit he impresses most. Nice album.

Britt Daniels from Spoon and assorted chums form "supergroup". Sounds like Spoon with added synths.

I like this:
Part of the fun of the album is that your ears play tricks with your memory of the original: these familiar melodies do unexpected things, resulting in an experience that's both disturbing yet full of strange delights
