That is, our favorite films that no one else here considers a favorite.

Most of mine probably.

Voters: T. Willy Rye (5), whodathunkit (5), Goat Boy (7), Rank Bajin (7), TopCat G (6)

I don't think I'd like it. Perhaps when I'm old.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen

Voters: kath (5), martha (5), all mimsy (6), whodathunkit (2), The Red Heifer (2), Geezee (2.25)

I watched this last weekend & commented on in the "Now Viewing" thread. I enjoyed it and expected it to show up here but it's really quite slight. There's probably 10 Clooney movies more worthy of inclusion and a handful of Coen movies as well.

El Laberinto del Fauno [Pan's Labyrinth] (2006)
Directed by Guillermo del Toro

Voters: kath (5), T. Willy Rye (5), whodathunkit (6), W.G. Kaspar (5), Rank Bajin (3), TopCat G (5)

It's always looked rather silly to me.

Lost in Translation (2003)
Directed by Sofia Coppola
Voters: GoogaMooga (5), matha (5), Owen (5), Snarfyguy (5), The Red Heifer (10), Geezee (7.5)

I watched this last year and became as bored as Bill Murray's character. If that was the point it was successful but Bill Murray can be better used.

In Bruges (2008)
Directed by Martin McDonagh

Voters: martha (5), Owen (5), The Ghost of Harry Smith (7), W.G. Kaspar (5), Rank Bajin (7), TopCat G (2), Czechgirl (5)

A movie I disliked so much I started a thread on the topic at the time. I assume, having made the mistake once, its not here bacause it's British?

I'd be happy if Colin Farrell never made another movie.

Memento (2000)
Directed by Christopher Nolan

Voters: T. Willy Rye (5), the masked man (7), Lemon Yoghourt (5), Snarfyguy (5), Ghost of Harry Smith (4), W.G. Kaspar (5), Czechgirl (5)

I included this but dropped it as I narrowed my list down to 30. A great movie from a director who is not afraid to explore possibilities. I had 4 Christopher Nolan movies in my list. Batman Begins has already appeared which leaves Inception, Dark Knight & Insomnia. I think Insomnia will miss out. The other two may have a chance.

I didn't check to see if that's all of the voters. Some voters may have got all their top 25 choices in the collective top 50. It does give some pointers as to who is closest to the BCB Screenedlelica collective viewpoint. Of my top 25 choices just 7 were favoured by anyone else. However The RightGraduate Profile & Goat Boy had 23 picked by at least one other person (possibly each other but I didn't check).

Yeah, it's interesting. Although it also shows how close the results were, as despite "sharing" a lot of choices, only about half of them made the final 50. Also, there were a lot of "single vote" choices that i considered, including some of beenieman's! It wasnt a massive poll sample, so the results would be skewed somewhat, but i think the final 50 was an interesting and eclectic mix, with a great number 1.

14 out of 22 (if that is correct) voted for the #1 movie so that is pretty convincing.

I expect as (if) we go back over the decades there will be more of a consensus though my 28% hit rate will likely fall.

It would've been interesting to see how different the results would've been with a larger poll sample, i imagine the positions 30-50 would've been pretty different. Also, in the case of a lot of the "single vote" choices, it's probably just as likely that others (such as me) considered them but forgot in the end. Whittling it down to 25 was quite tricky! Anyway, cheers for putting this together, algroth.

OOps. I was thinking of No Country For Old Men for some reason. My bad. Never seen it.

So we don't have much in common movie wise do we :D

So the poll results pretty much stayed in arthouse territory (albeit popular arthouse) right through the top 10, rather than veering into blockbuster-ville hey? I'm really surprised that one of the Bourne films didn't make it in... the Bourne series were probably my favourite action films of the decade. Also surprised not to see Toy Story 3 or The Dark Knight (I think the latter is a much better flick than Batman Begins).

Thanks loads Algroth, I'm particularly interested in going through the list of films that didn't garner many votes, that's often where the lesser-known jewels are don't you think?

Here's my top 25 for what it's worth but, as Beenie's already identified in his overview, my taste is pretty BCB-mainstream so half of my choices made it in the Top 50. None of the films that I 'hyped' with 10 points each made it though. :(

10 points each
Lantana (2001) - Ray Lawrence
Unbreakable (2000) - M Night Shyamalan
Dig! (2004) - Ondi Timoner
Chopper (2000) - Andrew Dominik
No Direction Home (2005) - Martin Scorsese

7 points each
Touching the Void (2003) - Kevin Macdonald
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) - Shane Black
The Host a.k.a. Gue Mooi (2006) - Bong Joon-Ho
Zodiac (2007) - David Fincher
In Bruges (2008) - Martin McDonagh

4 points each
Adaptation (2002) - Spike Jonze
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - Michel Gondry
Memento (2000) - Christopher Nolan
Mulholland Drive (2001) - David Lynch
Donnie Darko (2001) - Richard Kelly

3 points each
The Incredibles (2004) - Brad Bird
Let the Right One In a.k.a Låt den rätte komma in (2008) - Tomas Alfredson
24 Hour Party People (2002) - Michael Winterbottom
Monsters, Inc (2001) - Pete Docter
The Departed (2006) - Martin Scorsese

1 point each
The Lives of Others aka Das Leben Der Anderen (2006) - Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Team America (2004) - Trey Parker
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) - Paul Greengrass
Downfall aka Der Untergang (2004) - Oliver Hirschbiegel
City of God aka Cidade de Deus (2002) - Fernando Meirelles

I chose films that really affected me when I first watched them, or bring back happy memories (like watching Monsters Inc with my best friend's kids), even if some of them have become overly populist with time e.g. Donnie Darko is so overly-lauded that picking it is quite a dull choice but it's the only movie I've watched in the last ten years where I immediately rewound the videotape and watched it straight-through a second time. (Videotape! how the decade has changed our viewing habits, hey?)
