The votes probably got spread around those first 3 albums, Spec, without one getting enough to enter the list. Shame really.

A few longlisted albums which might have benefited from my vote include Hex (which I would have scored among my highest), Out of Tune (ditto), The Blue Notebooks and The Milk Eyed Mender. Interesting thread though.

Shame - The Blue Notebooks might just have made the list had you been in a position to vote.

Codename:Dustsucker came out at 22 in my longlist.

BTW, sorry to hear about poor health. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Congratulations too on your new book.

Thanks - new book just out. Hoping to feel better soon - complete overhaul of my diet due to gluten sensitivity has solved some problems (and led to a lot of overdue weight loss) but has caused others - not eating enough and getting ill as a result.

Anyway, here's my list - very much made with albums in mind, as opposed to acts or songs - haven't stuck to the scoring system, but the first ten are my top ones in more or less that order, the others in no order are other albums of the period which are most important to me:

Tori Amos - Boys for Pele
Blue Aeroplanes - Swagger
Bark Psychosis - Hex
Mojave 3 - Out of Tune
Ella Guru – The First Album
Fatima Mansions - Viva Dead Ponies!
Global Communication – 76.14
Jackie Leven - Forbidden Songs of the Dying West
Max Richter – The Blue Notebooks
North Sea Radio Orchestra - Birds

Robin Holcomb - Robin Holcomb
The Delgados - The Great Eastern
Helios – Eingya
Clogs - Lantern
Labradford - Mi Media Naranja
Stina Nordenstam - And She Closed Her Eyes
Meg Baird – Dear Companion
Rachel's - Music for Egon Schiele
Burach - Deeper
North Sea Radio Orchestra – s/t
Kate Rusby - Little Lights
Mogwai - Rock Action
The Beloved - Happiness
Wim Mertens - Shot and Echo
Old Blind Dogs - The World's Room
Dead Can Dance – Aion
Sigur Ros – Med Sid U Eyrum...
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci – How I Long to Feel...
The Cinematic Orchestra – Les Fleur
Velocette - Fourfold Remedy
The Flaming Lips – The Soft Bulletin
The Clientele – Strange Geometry
Hope Sandoval – Bavarian Fruit Bread
Joanna Newsom – The Milk Eyed Mender
Brian McBride – When the Detail Lost its Freedom
The Lost Soul Band – Friday the Thirteenth and Everything's Rosie
Last Days - These Places Are Now Ruins
Port-Royal – Flares

Ok, so how's about we share post-poll anxiety at all the foolishly-omitted records remembered much too late?

Here's two that I might have picked if I'd only remembered them in time.

Mazzy Star 'She Hangs Brightly' (1990)
Richard Buckner 'The Hill' (2000)

I was sure that Mazzy Star record was released in '89... only realised when I checked its candidacy for the current 80s poll...

I've just been amending my 90s-00s list and expanding to 40 for a friend and remembered Mazzy Star. But I've actually gone for So Tonight....

Also, been listening to those that appeared high on the list but were not on mine and Beta Band now appear on my amended list as do My Bloody Valentine.

So is this thread gonna be saved or is it about to face near extinction into the depths of page 2 on the YY-board?
Would be great if this one could be put into Classic Threads, if only as a tribute to the gracious host...

I was leaving it in case there was any more discussion, but yes we'll definitely save it. I'll move it to CT in a few days.

BUMP

Interesting to compare to the recent 80's list.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.
