That Judy Collins thing makes me want to punch a pensioner. The Ruby Suns was annoying. This list is not my cup of tea at all. I bet the poster sits in cafes with an apple mac laptop wearing a pair of loafers with no socks. I quite liked the Jimmy Holiday tune though.

There is something suffocatingly tasteful about B and Jorge Ben can suck a bollock of course. It goes deep but there is something very conservative about it. There's nothing here that's going to turn people off. It needs some kind of cheesy Euro pap to lift it up. Something that actually dares to make people go "ungh, fuck you". There is some nice stuff here though. The Pretty Things is new to me, the Moonsoon, despite fulfilling what seems to be the ubiquitous world music requirement these days is quite good. The new three are better than A's as well. Lee Dorsey is a solid pick and I enjoyed the Dexter tune. 999 is annoying mind but not as annoying as that Tim Maia thing. Plus in the Marvin Gaye song it has one of my all time jams and a previous pick. The USA tune is a cracker as well of course.

I don't think it's BCB Cup winning standard but it's something I'd be happy to receive in the Mix Club so...

No doubt A is good, but has lost me a bit with the new 3. B is more consistently to my taste overall. It's great to see another Dexter Wansel fan and that's a top pick.

what a shame these two were drawn against each other
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Two quite similar lists here. Both are very smartly and carefully chosen, and lots of nice songs... but that care and taste means there's nothing with any edge or excitement there either. Very little to choose between them - until A drops three rubbish new ones on us. That Ruby Suns thing was excruciating, like Animal Collective on really crap drugs; Tim Maia is cheesy cruise-ship Latino; and Judy Collins sounds like she's trying way way too hard.

B then. But it needs to cut loose a bit more.

I fucking love Tim Maia, there's just something so alive and vibrant about his music. That said I'm going for B because it seems a bit funkier overall. It's close though..I don't agree with Ed here at all, you seem to see every song in the competition as safe and conservative. Even Jorge Ben is now a safe, predictable choice apparently. I reckon you can't see the woods for the trees.
I do enjoy reading your opinions though. :)

A has an excellent slice of White Period Tim Maia followed by a perplexing cover of my favourite Brel song.

But B still has lots more songs I like.

Having a hell of a time deciding here, but it seems to come down to Lee Dorsey making up for more sins than B has committed. That is an album I need to own. But A is also very strong in parts.

TBH, I'm not sure there's a list left than I can say confidently deserves to win, but these might be my two favorites remaining.
