Do people want a bit more time for voting?

Postby The Modernist » 05 Feb 2018, 12:55

As you know I stepped in at the last moment and so had to make a few decisons on how to run things on the fly.
At the moment round one voting is scheduled to run for four days, but Neige has expressed concern that this isn't long enough. I'd like to canvas more opinions before I decide whether to change this or not.

God no. It becomes interminable

No, I think 4 days is enough.

I think Neige also said he was referring to this first round. For obvious reasons.

The first year I competed (2011), half the lists didn't even have links, and there were twice as many players. AND I think we were given only 2 days to vote. How did we manage?!

A lot of people managed - and still do quite probably - by just going ”A” or ”B” based on the three songs they know without listening to any links.

It’s annoying I guess but also part of the game. How to make a list that appeals to the quick voters and the anal-ysts alike?

Awful thing when that happens. I had a similar experience at a Tom Jones concert.

Don't forget also, the Cup has evolved since the beginning - now it's an Obscurefest (kinda) where we need more time, man!

Not ME, that is, but people with families, etc. We're lucky to have them participating.

No more than an extra day in my opinion.

I am all for not having the matches run too long, but one should also look at the fact that 32 people have entered the Cup yet, as we approach the four-day deadline for the first few matches, no more than 24 or 25 have voted in even the most popular. :?

Maybe people aren't committing their vote until they've listened to them properly?

Well they only have a few more hours to do so if that's the case...

Lots of folks only post from work, so counting weekend days as voting days might put them in a bind.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Yeah I'm a bit concerned about that. There are people I'd have expected to vote who don't seem to be..but is it because they haven't got the time or just that they've decided not to bother, it's difficult to know.

I refuse to vote on sight, but I do have very little spare time to listen properly at the moment.

However, there's no need to slow things down if I'm the only one concerned. :|
I'll simply catch up in later rounds...
Besides, my favoured lists tend to be losing (and mine does spectacularly ;) )

I'll make a decision tonight Felix, but at the moment there's been no great call for it and I'd rather not change things midway through if I can help it.

It would certainly be nice if there were more people voting, but I doubt that extending the time limit will do much for that.
If you've got nothing to do, don't do it here.
