A is all over the shop like a mad woman's knitting. I was digging its mellow - Sibylle Baier was a treat - but that fucking bass in The Duncan Sisters tune reminded me why Disco Sux.

B.
Good.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

B probably has a higher batting average, as I found a fair amount of A a bit dull. But the SIbylle Baier track takes it home. Find of the cup so far.

The Barbara Lynn and Grin tracks almost swing it back over (that might be my favorite Lofgren related thing ever away from Crazy Horse), but not quite.

I've just spent a highly enjoyable hour listening to both lists. I decided to give list A closer attention and I'm glad I did because it's really less of a traditional BCB cup list than a programmed sequence of music that is highly immersive and needs to be appreciated this way. Many of the tracks are fragile and minimal and really take you to a reflective and calm head space. My favourites were Shigeo Sekito, Lesley Duncan and Ashra -all lovely and all trhings I'd like to be part of my own record collection. Indeed I pretty much enjoyed all of it ( at least until The Duncan Sisters which I did have to skip in the end). It really came across as a lovingly curated list and makes me want to go out and buy music..which is the highest compliment I can pay it.

B is far more in expected BCB territory, but is no less distinctive for that. Like A, it very much has its own character which I'd summarise as a happy, though slightly woozy, drunkenness! Whilst it wasn't all to my taste there were enough highlights for me to have enjoyed it as a whole. These for me were the ramshackle energy of Eddy Current Suppression Ring ( kind of what punk rock should be like), the highly palatable Fleetwood Macisms of Sunflower Beam (much better than the track of theirs in match 6), the tough Barbara Lynn and the good natured, amiable Grin track.

Thank you both for an enjoyable morning, but I'm going to have to go A.

Some nice choices on A's list, but overall it doesn't really grab me.

Fuck me, B is boring. Every track here would get 5 stars from The Guardian's music critics. Each track has the energy of a hamster fart.

A by a long way. That Sybille Baier track is stunning (why follow it with such a piece of cack), and if anyone bothers to listen to my list, they'll know that I appreciate a bit of Jo Johnson and Ashra like electronics.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Bob Pollard could probably use a bit of quality control at times (you don't need to release 3 albums every year !) but he knows how to craft a tune for sure and Barbara Lynn is always great. Anything on A that actually has a tune i fine, but way too much noodly nonsense.

That Sibylle Baier song may well be very nice but I heard the first line as "every time I shit" and couldn't really take it seriously thereafter.

That aside, though, there is a lot of very nice stuff on A and it made for a nice playlist, several tracks I filed away for further investigation.

B has some nice moments too - that's a cracking Ariel Pink song and Barbara Lynn was a genuinely good soul nugget - but I find GBV very hit-and-miss and this one was the latter, while the two Australian punk things didn't impress, and nor did the Thin Lizzy/Grin excursion into booze-rock.

I agree with a lot of the positive noises on this tie - plenty that will warrant further investigation on both. Just about A, for the vibe overall, as G says, but enjoyed this match up.

2 really enjoyable lists, i must say. Neither is wholly my bag, but then i have a very big bag and all the components of these lists fit somewhere within its comfy comfines.

Is there something happening in Hong Kong? First you're telling everyone you're ready for some cock and now you are advertising the size of your bag.

Lonely?
Good.
