I pretty much concur with Toby's rundown of A, but liked B a lot more. Some great pop smarts on show unlike A which wants to flaunt its attitude. LIked Jain ,Joseph and Lil Lost Lou, so after the "surefires" cancel out Mann/Cale v Dr John/Welch its a clear win for B

A is the equivalent of a Wetherspoons curry. Promised delights of spicy goodness which in reality turns out to microwaved lumpen sick. B is consommé. Watered down, thin, a deeply unsatisfying essence of nothingness.
As my esteemed colleague Toby has rightly pointed out, not an auspicious start.
A for the Gun Club track, even though its the wrong one.

That was an ordeal.

A won it, though.

B

A has a Pink Floyd clone complete with a Hipgnosis clone cover, a B-52 Rock Lobster clone, quite like the John Cale track. B has Gillian Welch and Dr John, not much else caught my fancy.

I love that Black Mountain album cover, that's proto-photoshop at its finest. At least the music is equally fucking wretched, so you can judge a book by its cover.

It's a shame that these two have been drawn against each other, given the number of lists that are just a VH1 playlist or a remix of playlists from BCB of yore. B's "Makeba" is an inspired choice, and lowers the average age of entries by a significant number. But I think I'll plump for A for the bit of NDW and Carsick Cars.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.
