A is such a load of unlistenable shite that it's almost impressive. OK, the Cale (possibly my least favorite song on a great album) and the Mann (always like what I hear then forget about it almost immediately after) are fine, but most of the rest was a trial to get through. And The Fucking Gun Club will never be the way to my heart. I'm still mystified by their popularity among people with otherwise similar taste to mine.

Not that B is that much better, but it does have the Good Dr. and Ms. Welch. And that Finley track is nice too.

Can't imagine I'll they'll advance much farther unless they up their game, but it's more than enough here.

There's an invigorating spikiness to A, I can imagine Jumper K liking it (if you got him in a good mood). But B is more to my taste, nice Jain and It's Immaterial selections.

I don't love either, but both have some nice finds. They're really close for me. I'm going to go with a slight nod to A

I like the spikiness of A, and that's a great Dynamics pick.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

B.

I haven't heard It's Immaterial since the first year of uni - Driving Away From Home was a big favourite.
Good.

I think A has more that I like overall, as well as the peak tracks in the Dynamics and Black Mountain. I enjoyed the Finley though, B.

I am attempting, for the first time, to LISTEN to all the tracks, rather than making brazen assumptions about them based on what I know and don't know.

Mannschreck – Verdrahtet - Below par NDW. I was waiting for a little melodic touch to make this spark. It didn't happen.
The Gun Club – My Dreams - When I started buying records, I remember the Gun Club were 49p bargain bin regulars in Woolworths. 30 years later I'm still of the same opinion that they were there for a reason. I guess it's ok bu
Black Mountain – Space to Bakersfield - When I saw the cover, I thought "oh this might be a bit different. Sadly it was a lumpen sub Pink Floyd clone that went on for far too long.
Carsick Cars – Guang Chang - They're from China. That's about as interesting as it gets. I've heard better melodies down the pub.
The Dynamics - Misery - Well this was a lot better after, frankly, 4 songs of lumpen mediocrity. I'd dance to this if I was on the dancefloor already.
John Cale - Big White Cloud - Progression. Not the best song of his by a mile, but well, it's better than the start of this list.
The Sunflowers – Hasta la Pizza - Oh no! I guess if you like garagey punk you might like this. I do like classic Nuggets era punk and I've heard this sort of thing millions of times. It didn't do anything for me.
Aimee Mann - Nice but not my thing at all.

Dr John - Right Place Wrong Time - Obvious classic but it still hits the spot every time.
Gillian Welch - The Way It Goes - Didn't mind this but I've never really found Welch to be my thing.
Jain - Makeba - I found this quite offensive for some reason. I guess it's quite catchy if you're about 16 and off your tits, but I'm not.
Joseph- White Flag - Eminently forgettable.
It’s Immaterial – Ed’s Funky Diner - It's the 80s and there are men in vests and big shorts! Not as good as "driving away from home" though.
Lil' Lost Lou - He Put a Hook in Me - Again, just not my thing for some reason. Just too conventional sounding.
Robert Finley - If You Forget My Love - I've never got this deliberately retro soul thing. I guess it's catchy, it just doesn't do anything for me now.
The Bongolian - I'm A Bigger Badder Bro Than Any Game Of Thrones - as the youtube comment, Deep Purple meets Radiophonic Workshop. I guess it's fun but I have no desire to listen to it again.

A started off really badly and never really recovered, despite an improvement in the second half when it forced B's keeper into a vital save. B scored an early goal whilst A was still trying to get its passing going and from that point, just about did enough to hold onto its lead. I admired B's aesthetic a bit more, in that it was trying to be contemporary and not relying too much on established artists, but the reality was that none of them were of any real note.

A hesitant B from me.

A pretty miserable showing from both though, and I suspect neither will be going very far.

The BCB Cup equivalent of Rochdale vs Notts County on a wet November evening. Not a particularly auspicious start to proceedings either.

The great Dynamics and Aimee Mann tracks don't save A.

B hardly sets a foot wrong, highlights being Dr. John, Gillian Welch, Jain, Lil Lost Lou... and the Bongolian really put a huge smile on my face.

When I loaded up that Carsick Cars song on Youtube, its next recommendation was China Crisis. That's about as much fun as I had with A. I like the Cale one. Are the Sunflowers entering a competition for the most generic and unoriginal song ever?

B is pretty scattershot but has enough to win. I quite enjoyed that Jain song but the bassline really really reminds me of something else. What has she ripped off there? I've never heard It's Immaterial before. They sound Australian.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
