PENK wrote:When I hosted the Cup a couple of times we had an 8+3 format: eight songs in round one, with three added each round.

It worked well as the lists were more compact, less unwieldy and offputting, while still offering scope for variety and creativity and personality. I think it was better than the classic 10+5 format, which just gets ridiculously long and boring by the final rounds.

The track vs track format is best saved for the round-robin tournaments like the '60s Cup, Prog Cup etc. For the overall BCB Cup there'd be too many ties.

I tend to agree.

Nonsense. It's not a dictatorship. Getting people to "run the show" is not a problem, I'd do it.

Well, the question of who was running it was left hanging for a month, without a single volunteer.

Exactly.
Given the sheer lack of activity in general you can count yourself lucky that some people actually bother.

8+3 it is!

Let’s go!

Okay, I didn't see the thread, so I'm not sure where the conversation took place. I just thought it was strange that on a post that was deliberately soliciting opinions, a couple of replies said ignore what people think.

Yep, let's do this. I don't think we're gonna get many more, martha - give the sign-up a couple more days, and then get this thing kicked off when you're ready to go!

I have had something come up. I can't administer the cup this year.

Moddie has said here he could do it?

Any takers?

Sorry IRL stuff just takes precedence.

Hope it's nothing too serious, Martha. Take care.

I knew I shouldn't have heaped the pressure on. I blame myself.

Then fange.

But mainly myself. Take care, martha.

Gosh no. It's no one's issue but my own life stuff.

My dad has kidney failure and is going to need a lot of immediate attention from me at the same point my husband is looking for a new job because he hasn't been paid since Dec 31. I'm just overwhelmed by IRL stuff.

I love you guys. I'll still send a list in, but I'm unable to facilitate the cup.

All the best Martha, hope all will sort out for you.

Full credit to you Moddie for stepping in.

I seem to remember people wanted ties to run for a week? Is that correct?

With song vs song that works best, in this format it seems necessary to give people to listen to (most) songs even if they don't usually do that.
One week per round means you have wrapped this up in 5 weeks.

Nah, much too long G!

2 days is the traditional length, though we could try 3 if you think it might help voting numbers. 4 matches posted each day seems good too.

Stick with 2 days. When I ran the contest I found most of the votes arrived on day one. Very few were cast before the 2-day deadline. I doubt an extension would lead to many more votes.

64 tracks to listen to in 2 days? Seems difficult to fit in to me.
