I'm not familiar with Duncan Browne but apparently he had a minor hit in '72 called Journey (I checked it out, nice song) but this track is quite a bit different from that and he seemed to have moved wholesale into a Prog direction in the late 70s just as everyone else was moving away from Prog. Bad luck for him as this is a pretty decent stab at instrumental prog and I enjoyed it.

The Tudor Lodge has a strong whiff of early 70s folk rock about it and had a very pleasant easy going charm with a nice solo to wrap it up.

Tight match but I''ll go A

B isn't really prog, but I liked it a lot more.

I've heard some Duncan Browne stuff I've liked a great deal - this (with its annoying bass tone) not among it. It's pretty typical, really - like he excised everything unique about his music and was just after the showy instrumental fusion. Meh.

Duncan Brown is somebody I don't know too much about.

The track selected was very nice.

Lots of robust instrumentation and undoubtedly full of music.

It had a Steve Hackett feel which was very pleasant

Nice tubs - I thought I recognised the style - the great Simon Phillips.

Then Tudor Lodge - I never quite got into them at the time (my loss I know) - they just seemed to lack something.

Ann Steuart could play flute better than she could sing. Nice guitar licks. I enjoyed it

Difficult but I'm going

-+A+-

i like both very much, so it's gonna be a close call. A has strong instrumentation goin for it, i enjoyed the movement. B has such a sweet folky vibe. loved the wispy vocals.

mood for the moment. nice turn-ons, both.

Easy A started of slow but built up a head of steam in a jazz fusion style.

Weird. The Duncan Browne material I've heard sounds more like the Tudor Lodge track here, mellow and folky, with a touch of psychedelia. I guess Browne had a major change in musical direction. I can't say I like the direction he took, but it's not bad for what it is. Whatever the case I like the Tudor Lodge track much better.

A - hard to get thru the sort of double intro- didn’t get the vibe and the tune just sounds off. Once it started going I enjoyed some of the instrumental fusion. But honestly there is so much better songs in the genre not impressed.

B - while I enjoy folk prog this tune did nothing for me.

Not sure how to vote - I’ll take A

A is ok and i like bits of it, but came away feeling like i'd just been listening to a period soundtrack from a film or TV. Not necessarily bad... but not great either.
B is more my thing, fine guitar and done in half the time.

Another close pairing, Duncan gets the nod though.

I'm convinced Duncan is the long lost member of Genesis. That is not a good thing. Mercifully, B has resisted the temptation to become a flute-driven monstrosity, and in its way rocks.

As has been said, a tight match. Tudor Lodge is the sort of band I really admire, but then find their music a bit of a chore. Duncan Browne is the kind of foppy muso insider (he wrote 'Criminal World' recorded by Bowie) I should have no time for but secretly enjoy listening to.

Tudor Lodge is a very sought-after Vertigo swirl artefact, but I've always found it seriously lacking in the tunes department.

Duncan Browne wrote two fabulous songs, Wild Places and Criminal World (famous because of the Bowie cover), and his album Wild Places (which includes Camino Real) is a forgotten masterpiece in my book).

So A, without the shadow of a doubt.

I recently dug up the Duncan Browne-album again as The Wild Places is such an awesome track and this is not bad either....with Simon Phillips on tubs and Tony Hymas on keys it has certainly a bit of starpower.
Credit to Tudor Lodge for an entertaining song but
