A a truly fantastic band, it's a great shame they didn't make more albums.

I've no time for ELO

Trace a great band taken from the first of three albums (all are very strong)

I think the first is the better but Reap thought the second - Birds

[Darryl Way plays a bit of fiddle on their debut]

Rick Van der Linden - what a player

Watch this if you haven't seen it [excellent despite the poor visual quality]

I’m not too sold on either track. I’m often a sucker for the catchy hits from ELO and they have some solid albums as well, but they’ve done much better, I believe. That said, it definitely has more going for it than A, which comes off as generic symphonic prog/classical crossover and does very little for me at all. B it is.

A is great! Old school classical/symphonic prog! Love it! There's probably more of it than I need (inevitably), but at least it offers some variation without wimping out on the O-T-T ridiculousness of it or the 'balls-to-the-wall' playing.

B has some nice, poppy moments, but it's based on elements we've heard a million times. I don't get the deification of Lynne as a pop genius at all, and this does nothing to change my mind.

Also, might be a coincidence, but the main riff is totally copped from Boston - when their debut was still new!

General rule of thumb, ELO sound awful.

Trace are superb. Easy win for A.

I've never really cared for the showboating aspect of prog that the Trace track has in abundance. High on complexity and fancy playing, short on anything particularly memorable.

The ELO track is more their pop sound than their prog but it was the much more enjoyable of the two

As much as I like Out Of The Blue, it gets steamrollered by the Dutch here...

A - has all the bells and whistles although also has some ELP bad tendences

B - I saw this tour. This was the second song after they came out of their spaceship. Always like this turn

I love a bit of ELO, well, in fact I love a LOT of ELO.

But I “discovered” Trace in the last year and they were terrific. And prog, which ELO are not.

This was initially the clip I wanted to enter- it's just an absolutely stunning performance. I just wasn't too sure about the sound quality.
