A was a good choice, but it's up against a track from what I consider to be the best Fish era Marillion album.

Re: Prog Cup 2019 Round 7 Match 1
I guess if anyone is allowed to get away with a John Lennon pastiche then it's his son and he does a nice job sounding very much like Tears For Fears in Beatles mode which is no bad thing and I enjoyed this a lot.
B is a rollicking good opener from the final Fish album which makes you wish they would go rock out a little bit more as they so rarely do especially since Fish left.
a close tie but B just nudges it.

B even if my interest in Marillion has slowly faded over the past 10 years.

Re: Prog Cup 2019 Round 7 Match 1
Far be it from me to award this to the younger Lennon - if anything I'm more disposed to be prejudiced against it. But, undeniably, there's something a bit more interesting (Beatle pastiche or no) than what any other Beatle sons have offered up. Yes, his voice sounds like John's - but it also sounds like he's having fun, and his tongue covers enough of his cheek that it doesn't sound cynical to me. It' sounds inviting. Don't know how much Claypool has to do with that, but I can't deny I liked it. So A.
Besides, it's not like B is offering up anything we haven't heard before. And was it supposed to cut off that abruptly?

Both on the bland side, Claypool Lennon appeals a tad more. A by the width of a walrus' whisker.

A - yes I like this tune and Sean. Nothing special but easy catchy tune with some good simple daddy riffs. Going to see them end of July they are the warm-up act.
B - Fish Marillion Gem - While I've cooled on Marillion still love them and this tune is a good one.
Good as A it can't compete with HH.

B is an excellent Marillion track, but I really dig A.

A's rather cool - the go-to reference is Beatles of course but with the particular neo-psychedelic textures and so on, what I was most reminded of was Lonerism-era Tame Impala. Who of course have pretty obvious Beatles/Lennon influence. It's from this year too, so that's another plus. B's a neat number from Marillion. Derivative? Yeah, but a fairly competent Lamb-era Genesis pastiche all the same. Still, A.

A sounded like Klaatu. It's not bad.
B is a classic though.
