Prog Cup '19 Musings

Postby C » 21 May 2019, 14:20

Interesting range of broad church prog in the first round.

Some too safe choices, some derivative claptrap and some Carlsson corkers!

Great fun - bring on round 2

[well done Maarts]

My picks break down roughly as follows:

3 x broad church
3 x derivative clap trap
2 x Carlsson corkers
2 x risky divisive picks
1 x safe but under-appreciated classic

I can't wait Ray!

I think I voted -+B+- in every match

That match 1 was gruesome!

PS The 'safe but under-appreciated classic' will get slaughtered

Can’t believe I won this thing in 2017 as to be honest I feel little connection with most of the entries so far.

For me, music needs an attractive melody, or at least a hook somewhere to make it appealing.

There’s plenty of that in the numerous prog sub-genres but it’s not exactly been in abundance in the 1st 2 rounds.

For me Round 3 stank the place out.

It’ll be bloody Gong, Captain Beefheart and Henry Cow next for the love of God!

Those would be some excellent choices for any prog cup. :D

I’m all for broadening my tastes but some of this foreign stuff is waaaaay outside my zone.
