Although A isn't much of a song, an enthusiastic vocal and a great, spacey dub production make it an enjoyable listen.
B is quite a brave Pixies pick as it's them at their most uncompromising. Can't say I liked it though. Relentless in a bad way.

A may not be much of a song, but B is really not much of a song.

I'd say if you're going for the Pixies, B is rather typical. It shows off how "uncompromising" they are. I'm not sure it has any other reason to exist, which seems to be their thing.

Is Joey Santiago the greatest living Filipino? I think so, just listen to that queasy guitar (actually that's probably Black Francis). Genius.

Sister Nancy is good fun too, but it has to be B

A is another cheap as chips production, the overuse of echo in space is a beautiful thing. Kind of in a similar vein to Althea & Donna, but superior in my view. I'm a sucker for a brazen catchy nonsense vocal. Hook and atmosphere, above all else. Joyous. Not sure what else to say about this, this has been the find of the round for me. I love it, perfect pop simplicity. Is the rest of her output as good?

Hmm. I like the vocals to B, but the song's a bit of a chug-along, isn't it? It's all a bit tame, if there's going to be guitar noise, I want it peeling the skin off my face. I think the lumpen drums don't help much, probably would've been better with no percussion at all. I don't think I'll ever get The Pixies.

Thanks A, it was lovely to meet you but the memory of seeing myself on VPRO-TV in the heavily moshing crowd during this song at the Jaap Edenhal in Amsterdam in 1990 is just too good of a moment for me.

B is good Pixies, but A is just about perfect.

Haven't heard Sister Nancy before. I love the production, the way the echoes bounce from speaker to speaker.
I don't know if there's a band I've gone off more than I have the Pixies. I loved Surfer Rosa at the time, found i fascinating, but after the third or fourth album I just gave up. The Black Francis effect. Still, this at least harks back to the beginnings.

Um, difficult, but I think A shades it on this lovely spring afternoon. If I'd listened at night, things might have been different.

Best round so far.
I like both but A gets the vote. You may have noticed in previous cups I’m a bit of a reggae fan.

A is a nice obscure pick and I’d have gone elsewhere on Surfer Rosa but it’s just about
