A seemed so full of its own self-importance in making a BIG STATEMENT, that it seemed rather ridiculous. Far too portentous.
The Furs, as we discussed fairly recently, haven't had much in the way of critical revisionist praise, and, as such, are becoming one of the more forgotten bands of the post-punk era. This is a shame as they had some strong moments early on -this, unfortunately, isn't one of them though and seems an odd pick to represent them. I'm voting for it though because I have time for the band and because I found A so dislikeable.

Congrats to B for picking my least favorite track from my favorite 'Furs album! :D

I like my Sinead a bit later than this, but I really do think she gets an unfair kicking. A is overwrought, immature, self-important, etc. - all that's true. What do you expect from a 21-year-old? She can sing, and she is compelling. This is not one of her best moments, but there is plenty of evidence that she's not ordinary. As ordinariness is something the decade suffered greatly from, I like to reward it when I hear it, even if it's flawed in its presentation.

I thought only Hatz and I were allowed to like the Furs. Great, great album. Sinead O'Connor is often extremely annoying, but I like the pared back purity of her voice on this. Tricky one.

A feels like a bit of a stab at something epic, which it never quite reaches, but it seems quite a solid effort to me. Nice fuzzy guitar, a big voice, builds up into something of a crescendo. I'm with hatz, most definitely not ordinary, at least she's aiming for something.

The Furs are forever workmanlike. It's always leaden, club-footed post-punk. Part of it is in the limitation of the vocalist and his annoying raspiness, but it all seems so devoid of ambition, so lacking in energy, excitement, purpose, tune. I just don't understand why you'd choose to listen to this.

Not mad about either - very poor show for a final. I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER!

Exactly how much powder did you feel the need to keep dry in the group stage?

I was a very close fourth in my group I'll have you know!

I had some belters lined up - a couple of Bogshed 'deep cuts' and following its ignominious performance in the last Cup, I reckon Rush's Tom Sawyer would have done the business for me this time around! Every dog has its day!

The opening track to The Lion & The Cobra-.a. statement to come and kick in your door. At age 16, it was.quite a tour de force, one I think she never bettered.
The PF is just junkie ennui set to music....

God, I really dislike A, self important and overblown. I’m surprised B is getting such a lukewarm reception, it’s one of a clutch of excellent Furs tunes from the early part of the decade before they rather lost their way. Easy
