Two tracks I'm fond of, among the very best the two bands produced, but the pinginess of IKF just about wins this over Kevin Rowland's wracked vocals.

That's probably one of the better DMR songs I've heard, meaning it's faintly tolerable. Barbs tossed my way aside, even fiddles didn't help him. Fooled the NME crowd for a while, though. Nice work if you can get it.

Not that B is great shakes, but at least it doesn't feel like it's trying to con me.

Seriously: The sound of B is so eighties-style ugly it makes me ill... I do prefer minor Dexy's!

Two great choices, and either is a worthy winner, but for me the brassy confidence of A wins it.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

Two great tracks ( I had both singles) to kick things off.
TTMD is, with Plan B, my favourite Dexy's single. A charged, impassioned rush with a great brass sound pushing it to higher peaks. The Josef K track is so stripped down as to be barely there, but that's what makes you notice the details - the fragile but romantic croon of the vocal, the chopped guitar making it's angular shapes, the crispness of the drumming. It creates a wonderful atmosphere. So it's A's passion against B's detached, cool romanticism..for being a fresher pick from an underrated band, I'm going..

Ooh, good start to the final, and it's even a Dexy's track I'm not aware of. I'm struggling a bit with it's Northern Soul revivalism, but that's a personal taste thing. I really want the brass to be a bit more explosive when it comes to the chorus, I want to be knocked backwards, not just honked at. But still, decent tune, nice burst of energy.

It's been so long since I've dragged any Josef K out that I didn't recognise this song at all until the chorus. It's quite a slender thing with a mannered vocal. The verse seems almost inconsequential, which makes the languid warmth of the chorus more surprising.

It's a close one, but I think B just speaks to me that bit more.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Solid matchup here, but I’m feeling B today.

Despite the fact that I find Kevin Rowland acutely annoying I actually like that Dexy's song but I agree with DF's criticism regarding the horns.

B had a nice stripped down feel to it and was good too but I'll take A

The Dexy's song is a good tune, sadly it has Kev at his most trying too hard 'brrr' ever few seconds annoying.
Charming man though in person.

I preferred the Joseph K track - great guitar solo

I find B a bit dour and repetitive. A is ok

Dexy's never really recaptured the intensity of their early records like this one.

Great start! Two top picks - my favourite by Dexys, urgent and righteous - pity poor Robin! - and one of Josef K’s finest, languid and delicate in a decidedly Postcard Records specific way. Hard to call but ultimately TTMD is a track I never tire of.

While I did like the guitar at the end of B, A kept my attention thru out.
