I sort of admire A but it's terrifying. Obviously, I'm going to vote for The Cure.

I tend to like the early Cure stuff and B is no exception. There's not much to it but it gets by on enthusiasm and charm - two qualities that A pretty much thoroughly lack.

Ooh, Children of God. I remember the days when this was Swans accepted classic album, but the proggier stuff seems to get the acclaim these days. This is still more of a track in the early style, slow, pounding, loud. It's what Swans were all about. Intense, with a sludge of guitar and a preacher-esque declamatory vocal. Top stuff.

Drum n' bass n' bass. It's a perky little drive from The Cure, nothing stellar but ticking all the correct post-punk boxes and having that slightly annoying over use of echo. Never going to beat Swans in their prime.

A - Dull sludge of a riff, vocals which make Marilyn Manson sound like Sam Cooke, funereal pacing, unbreaking monotony..oh joy! Pass the Nurofen.

B - I always thought 'Primary' was a slightly less successful attempt to repeat 'A Forest', nevertheless its hectic, chopping sound and sense of purpose (the record actually sounds like its travelling) still make it one of their best singles.

Because I'm not mental B

A was an uninspiring, cheerless dirge of a tune. B isn't my favourite Cure by any means but it'll do.

I guess there is some kind of artistic intent in Swans' schtick, which is to come up with a riff and then just grind it out for ages and ages. Almost everything that turns up in these cups sounds like this, although I have heard one or two things that I like: they can be a bit more interesting when they actually put the effort in and don't do this posey doomy thing. This, though, is rather tame and dull to be honest.

B is a good Cure number, propulsive and enjoyable. Nice twin bass attack.

I'm a simple man, I see Swans, I vote Swans. A. Good match from both sides though.

Too much bass vs too many basses. Sometimes I just yearn for some treble, something female rather than all this macho shouting and pounding. Swans definitely needs more Jarboe, Cure needs more talent and a decent vocalist and producer.

I have to say, and this is no different, everything I’ve heard by Swans has been an ugly sludge. Really not for me. And that’s one of those cracking early Cure singles that’s never unwelcome chez RT. Probably even more one sided than the tie with Britny Fox.
