Re: 80s Cup Round 8 Match 9
With a few notable exceptions, I find XTC irredeemably smug. This isn't one of those exceptions.
The Shalamar is still an absolute classic. Easily B.

XTC showcase all their craft and intelligence with a pleasing guitar sound and some nice chord changes, and they showcase all their worst qualities with the twerp on vocals and a melody which sounds like a toddlers' TV theme.
B is exuberant, warm and catchy; but it does have too many of those 80s production elements that turn me off, like the crappy brass and the slappy bass.
B had more oomph.

I did genuinely enjoy the previous XTC pick but this isn’t up to that standard. Blown away by a belting pop single, absolutely ace.

There's value in both of these for me. I feel there's many better tracks to pick off of Skylarking, but A's still fine.

A
sorry, Shalamar

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

B is among the disco hits I can get behind, but A is perfection.

T Willy and Neige both voted too late, so the result is a draw.
A - trans-chigley express - 12
B - The Modernist - 12

So did Neige's, but you seem to have counted it.

Blimey you're right, I missed Neige's vote because I was distracted by the other one!
Scores adjusted accordingly. It's close at the top of group 1!
