A very strong match with two robustly seminal tracks
Good lads
I must declare a pecuniary interest, as like Mick Jagger, two of the Pretty Things went to the same school as my two boys.
Difficult to vote against....
However, Can are always difficult to vote against to my old ears.
It boils down to the fact that the Can selection is a better one that the selection for The Pretty Things

Ah, man, that Pretty Things' track is just STEEPED in atmosphere. It aches, it fucking kills me every time. What a band, what an album, what a record!
The Can song sounds fabulous but there's just not enough there, really. Not quite, anyway - not in this match

Can don't really do it for me.
The Pretty Things track was really good - a surprising 'find'.

A sums up a lot of what is great about Can ( great drumming, arresting soundscapes, originality - no one else sounds quite like them) but also what can be a bit irritating ( some of it can sound like stoned jamming). This one has a bit too much of the latter for me; I don't mind it, but it doesn't really go anywhere.
Even when they're doing something quite mainstream and polished like this, The Pretties bring a raw, bruised quality which makes it very powerful. I agree with everything JC says about it. A great song from one of the great 70s albums.

Strangely, Can are one of the krautrock bands I prefer when they were much more steeped in the rock tradition, with Malcolm Mooney as singer. I never found their more experimental/creative work particularly engaging. Still, Jaki Liebezeit is always a pleasure to hear, and this is quite a delicate little intricate thing. Quite uncertain in mood, an experiment that perhaps never really went anywhere, but was pleasant enough on its own terms.
B sounds much more hoary and backward looking, more than a hint of Beatles in the vocals, and plenty of Floyd in the tedious guitar stylings. It can fuck off, basically.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

B is...well, if you don't know by now...
Not my favorite track from it, but it's from one of the greatest records ever.
If A had been "Turtles Have Short Legs" I might have to think about it a bit.

Wow, a terrific Can track I've never heard before. I really loved it's relaxed vibe and brushed percussion and tablas. I need to have this one in my Can collection.
The laid back summery feel of the Pretty Things track is a joy too making this a very tight match to vote but I'll give it to the Pretties.

Had not heard that Can track before and I enjoyed it more than I expected, but I knew right from the start the result of this tie, B belonging to one of my fave 70s albums.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Like both a lot. B starts off very Steely Dannishly but then improves radically.
