B is yer classic Ange/Moddie sumptuous seventies soul session bollocks and I've seen far too much of it over the last few weeks. fuck off
A is better anyway

Well I'll be blowed... I never knew that was the origin of "Behind The Mask"!
The Four Tops tune is perfectly serviceable but...
It's definitely A

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SF 2
The Four Tops' ABC years are highly underrated. OK, it's not a Whitfield production, but those are pretty high standards. Anyway, thanks to B for not being "Ain't No Woman" or "Keeper of the Castle."
I'd personally say A is easily the more ordinary/dated track here, as ABC soul, despite producing plenty of hits, is often forgotten in favor of Motown West, Philly, Curtom, etc. It deserves better, whereas RS helped give us the 80s. Gee, thanks.

Initially A was too plinky plonky 70s tv theme tune for me, but when the vocoder came in and the groove kicked in, it started to grab me a lot more. Daft Punk were definitely listening. B might not be one of The Four Tops better known tunes but the meaty production and Levi Stubbs' authoritative vocal are hard to argue against.
B but close..

Blimey, it's normally quite hard for me not to vote for the electronically inclined and synthpop stuff, but the sound on this thing is horrible, it's a Playschool bounce along and piercing cheese-synth madness. Ugh. Jeez, synthpop of this time was gritty, innovative, heartfelt and reflecting the times, the only thing this reflects is badly on themselves. Horrible.
I'm more than tired of this kind of thing from B, which is really run of the mill by-the-numbers soul bobbins that was probably not good enough to make a b-side. But the vocals are good enough, and A was bad enough.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

The Four Tops tune has plenty of agreeable pizzazz but Sakamoto sure can come up with great melodies and just takes this one for me.

Only needed ten seconds of B and the decision was made.

B!
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
