I have mixed feelings about 'Black Satin'. On the one hand there is enough ideas and invention to form about five genres, and I particularly the drumming and percussion. On the hand I've never liked that main whistling motif that keeps being repeated and it does go on a bit. B is one of the strongest tracks on 'Horses' (after 'Land', 'Gloria' and 'Redonda Beach') which really kicks off when the band get into their thing.

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 6
I bought "On The Corner" only about a year ago - I thave tried but it doesn;t grab me in the manner that things like "In a Silent Way" "Jack Johnson" or " Bitches Brew" did... I don't exactly dislike this track, I just don;t think it would harm me if I never heard it again.
Patti Smith and I have a long history..... I have tried and tried but.... i struggle so much with her voice. It shouldn't be a deal breaker but it invariably is. This track starts out fine (very "Because The Night") but then degenerates into tuneless vocals over thrashing guitars... as it often does.
A very unsatisfied vote for A

Nice table on Miles' bit - shame it wasn't developed. Not my favourite Davis album
Robust tubs though
I've never got into Patti but this track is very agreeable.
A difficult choice - chalk and cheese....
The A has it the A has it

I enjoyed A more than I thought I would, but it's still B

both would be great but are knacked by some unpleasant elements
The Miles track SOUNDS amazing - a real manic clutter that grabs you because it's so OUT THERE. But I just don't want to hear it for too long - it becomes annoying
and that's one of my least favourite tracks off Horses - altho' it's still good. But listening now I really cannot abide Patti's voice. It sounds as mannered as that Costello thing we had a week or two back. Almost painful
erm...
A, but not with much excitement

Tough, as I like both a great deal, but right now I guess I have more affection for A. B is possibly my least favorite song from an album I love. And I think Miles "got" rock and funk in a way his contemporaries who flirted with it didn't.

now, i love me some percussivity. (i feel a never-ending urge for more percussive instruments.) it's just that the whole thing isn't all that together, if you ask me. and you didn't.
meanwhile, i love that patti smith track. some folk are knockin her vocals on this, but i think it's one of her best vocal performances. not to mention it cranks out.

I guess Patti Smith is all well and good if you like reading. Fact is the band's not that hot and you're a better singer. Yes, you, whoever you are reading this.
Miles, however, sounds like it could be recorded tomorrow. Once this album clicks for you it'll knock you out.
That's a big

Sonically Black Satin just a great sounding piece full of different sounds but with plenty of space to give them clarity.
I'm not much of a Patti Smith fan but I did enjoy that track with had a good momentum right to the end.
Solid match but A

I've never ventured far enough down Miles' discography to get to On the Corner. I'm not sure his fusion stuff is for me, I kinda stop at In a Silent Way, and I'm reluctant to look further. It's interesting, rhythmically, but it also doesn't seem to be doing an awful lot musically. If this wasn't Miles Davis, would it just be regarded as an average funk instrumental with a catchy hook?
Patti's got that same kind of annoying voice as Richard Hell, albeit not as forced, it seems more natural to her. But is that actually a plus? It feels like a stronger tune to me, the Miles seemed a bit aimless, but this is certainly focused, and knows how to build up a bit of a dynamic.

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 6
This is a tough decision, I love both tracks. I was first exposed to On the Corner on another cup, one of the long tracks, and I recall ordering a copy upon first listen. Haven't regretted a bit, and A is probably the one I like the most (besides being more cup friendly).
I don't think B is a weak track inside Horses, I find it quite good (well I do like the whole album anyway). But still I have to go for
