Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 3
It was told to me early on, in the first or second Cup I competed in. I thought it was common knowledge here (but not a rule - that's not what I meant).

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 3
a - Hell, I bought this single on Regal Zonophone, and I loved it, although I was under the mistaken impression that I bought it as an undergraduate, i.e. in the 1960s. Having no understanding of music, it never occurred to me that it had anything to do with the blooz, I just heard it as a genius evocation of a herd of 100-ton sauropods promenading in the Jurassic Swamps and tripping out on some funky leaves. See those necks go! And that demented piano is marvellous. I don't think I ever mentioned this before, but I think that Roy Wood is by far the best pop auteur Britain produced before punk and indie: his run of Spectorish-inspired singles with Wizzard is Doghead, and See My Baby Jive is secure in its personal pantheon place as one of the top five British singles of my lifetime. And as for copying Sabbath, this one track out-heavies their entire output.
Oh, yeah, the score 7.5 / 10
b Hey, a funk version of Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers. Of course, it's better than that and the writers' version - how could it not be? - but it's still a crap song - or at least, a crap chorus with a not bad verse that, give them credit, these guys sing and swing beautifully. Nice tone to the guitar solo, too, not a cowbell or effects pedal in hearing. Not quite a silk purse, but a damn fine hessian clutch bag out of this sow's ear. 5.5 / 10

A is pretty appalling all told. And I say that as someone who really likes the band. If you listen carefully, you can actually hear Roy Wood's goatee beard and moustache growing as the song progresses.
An interesting anecdote regarding B: someone has picked it in one of these cups before. I remember because they picked it in a tie against me. And I won. Partly because my pick was awesome, of course, but also partly because this is toss.

Nah, these are both a bit bobbins. I guess A is a little fresher to these ears, so less annoying.

I find A rather turgid. B is at least foot-tappable-along-to on a damp Monday night.

B is not for me, sadly. I like a bit of EWF, but this is a bit meh for me. A is ok, I would have preferred some Wizzard, but i'll take it.

B is good but not one of my favorite EWF-tracks. The Move starts a bit leaden but spurts out some nice sounds afterward...

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 3
I'm with Mod here, there's tracks by both bands I really like but neither of these stand out amidst the best of either's catalogue. A doesn't have the manic quality that makes The Move's heavier moments so effective and it sounds a little lumpen as a consequence, whilst B is blanket, non-descript AOR, entirely devoid of appealing qualities. So really, it's A but it leaves a bit to be desired.
