Really like both bands, but not the tracks I'd want from either.

The Move were beginning to run out of steam by this point and would split soon after. This is a fairly uninspired attempt to give their sound a blues rock makeover in tandem with the times. It doesn't excite as a song.
The EWF track may be a bit better, but is more annoying in a way because there's so many great EWF tracks that could have been picked ( the pre hit early 70s period, in particular, has all kinds of nuggets most BCBers will be unaware of). It's a bit of an insipid cover, a little too slick and soulless for its own good.

A is a bit more fun, even If I'm unconvinced by it.

Contrary to some other posters here, I think there has been too little blues rock in this cup, a genre that had a huge presence in a big part of the decade (definitely the biggest influence player on my 70s). Had not heard A before and I quite liked it in its simplicity, those acoustic strums in the second part being the cherry on top.

The best one can say about B is that it improved the original, but that's hardly an achievement (that Macca abomination is the only flaw in Revolver, much worse than Yellow Submarine). Still it is

B is absolutely fucking awful. I'm surprised anyone put this forward as a Cup entry. They must be a bit daft

A is a lumpy-custard Move choice but still beats B by a few furlongs

Unlike Coan, I think it's the best cover of a Beatles' song.

Ever. I gotta think this is really what McCartney was shooting for when he wrote it.

Of the 113 different cover versions of the old Beatles song, the EWF is not really the best; Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers did it much better in 1966.

My vote goes to Move. A

Not the greatest Move song I've ever heard, but I don't honestly know what they had going on in the 70's.

I can't imagine anyone flipping through their records and pulling out the soundtrack to that Sgt. Pepper film abomination and thinking that anything off it would make a good choice for this competition, but there's something slightly beguiling about Earth Wind & Fire doing Steely Dan doing the Beatles, and even though I hope to never hear it again, I'm still going to give it the nod.

The Move has a monstrous riff - delightful.

Great vocals too!

EW&F are just too funky - sorry not my scene man

"Brontosaurus" is The Move in an unconvincing role as blues rock swaggerees... it doesn't really work.

The EWF pick is utterly bewildering - of all the great tunes they made, or great covers of Beatles tracks....this gets chosen. Jeez.

One of the least interesting singles by the Move against a brilliant Beatles cover?

Again, love both, but A packs a bit more of a wallop as it's not overplayed in my world, which B is. I agree with what Sloop says, though - one of the few Beatles covers that outdoes the original at its own game. Too bad I'm so tired of it.

Are The Move trying to do Black Sabbath here? It's a bit weird, it's got a bit of the glam swagger you'd expect from Roy Wood in a few years time with Wizzard, but the death-by-blues rhythm section are really giving the pop underbelly a bit of a fatal kicking. I'm definitely not a fan of that style of piano playing, as previously noted.

B doesn't sound anything like the Earth Wind and Fire I remember, either. I mean, I'm all for a bit of cheesy funk and soul, but this is a slice of Stinking Bishop, and those high vocal harmonies coupled with the blasts of brass are really nails down the blackboard stuff for me. It's a terrible song, given a terrible plastic going over. Ick.

i love both tracks, mwhaha. wellllll, it's true.

there are beatles covers i love more than B, but i still think B is a blast. i did the first time i heard it. and i am a hardcore beatlean wench.

the move gettin all heavy and dino-like pleases me to no end, especially that whatever shift around three minutes in... oooooof.

ohhhhh a tough call for all kaths (meaning this kathleen).

fucque it. what i invariably want from a cover is a *reason* for a cover, a re-imagining, a re-take. ya ya. apologies to a fine move track. very close.

It's probably only here because of Cheap Trick, but it's a heck of a riff. I remain an EW&F skeptic and that arrangement of that track does them no favors.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I don't mind the EWF cover, one of the better covers from that soundtrack but it does make me want to hear the original instead. I like Brontosaurus ok although it's not terribly exciting by Roy Wood's standards.

An unenthusiastic A

Never liked B, sorry. And since when are covers acceptable?
