Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 1
i am... unsure here.
i am not sure i agree with hatz that mediocre dylan is better than the clearly overlong but freakkkkky ass A.
i am not at all sure things are okay in my brainpan when i find myself agreeing with evil_ghoti that the dylan track sounds like a lamer version of, say, shelter from the storm.
at least A has some wicked gweetarisms goin on to keep my interest, no matter how followy it may be.
i really consider this a toss-up, but i'll take A.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Don't trouble yourself on our account.
Let me assure you that I never have, and never will, taken you (nor the Confederacy of Dunces presumably represented by your use of the first person plural - unless of course you are suffering from Coldtea's Disease) into account on anything I have ever done, nor ever will do. But thank you for your tender concern
Anyways, when I wrote this
I was under the influence of a mild fever and a shedload of pressing tasks, but I'm back to my more usual condition of under the influence of fab gear and a sense of frolicsome inconsequentiality, so let's get down to it...a - ooh, twelve minutes. goody. And the bass riff from Peggy March's 'I Will Follow Him', that's rad. Oh sod it I got better things to do with my time.
a - despite my long on-line acquaintanceship with he who posted it, I have no memory of having heard it before. While I can't say I'm particularly enamoured of the vocals, whatever language, if any, they are, I rather love their take on the JazzerMazzerChazzer gimmick of taking a simple pop riff or melody and ladling feedback and racket over the top, although I do keep wanting to sing along.. "and where he goes, I'll follow, I'll follow". I don't see it needs to be as long as this – barely halfway through so far – mind. Of course , as soon as I wrote that they started introducing what sounded to my even older, yet strangely more discerning, ears variations on the howling of the damned racket, although the riff continues. 'I love him, I love him, I love him'; they really have nailed that fucker to the ground. Mind you, Peggy has got a better bellow than Mugsy, and I wonder how it would sound to play her(mono) single through one speaker and a mash-up of Metal Machine Music side three played at 45rpm and three minutes from Neil Young's Weld coming through the other speaker? Different, certainly; better, probably. Nowhere near as good as it would have been with Jerry Lee on piano and Daddy G, King Curtis, Junior Walker, Albert Ayler and Teenage Steve Douglas on horns. instead of all that unpleasant squeaky noise, Mantovani on strings and Phil 'pint of creme de menthe' Spector puking green in the box, but anyway, 6.5 / 10
b - I'm quite fond of a bit of Bob, but this link won't play for me on my ancient machine: never mind, I doubt I'd vote for an track not considered good enough for a not-bad 1970s' album that was released in the 21st century in a 1970s' cup in which the release date was supposed to be the criterion for admissibility anyway.

I'm not sure anyone ever has/will. He is the fool's fool.

Re: 70s KnockOut Cup- SS 1
I'm all for lengthy guitar wig-outs with groovy bass riffs!
But not when they have been recorded in a cupboard in a sixteenth-century ship somewhere at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
I'm pretty sure I've heard some LRD before and though it unlistenable shite; this one was far from shite, but it was certainly unlistenable. Had it been listenable it would have got my vote.
B is listenable, although it is also rather irritating in that it is just a demo that keeps threatening to break into 'Shelter from the Storm'. That is one of my favourite Dylan songs, but this is supposedly a "deep cut" and really I can't imagine thinking this is better than the aforementioned, or 'Tangled up in Blue', or 'If You See Her Say Hello' etc. I swear he reuses a few of his own lyrics on this one, too.

That groovy bassline on A is really ace but unfortunately I've heard it employed far better on tracks that no doubt rip off the mighty LRD. The rest of the track is really badly recorded and far too long. The Bob track is also too long and he'd clearly have been served better by a pile of other songs but, hell, its still pretty cool hearing a master at work.

A - Haven't heard this japanese band but know others. may go to see Acid Mothers Temple in the spring. Starts off a little to noisy before rolling into a smooth jam with some interesting guitar work.
B - pure Dylan sweetness.

Nice match to start things off. I'm going with A because it's an absolute monster of a track.

shouldn't that moldy ass Dylan track have been disqualified for not being actually released during the 70's ? (Recorded in the 70's but released much later...)

I always defer to release date, myself.
