I'm enjoying the comments on the match-ups, but I notice that although it says that Rayge has commented on match 6, I don't see anything there after Mr. Trans Chigley's post. Is there a glitch in the system?

There must be - it's disappeared into the ether. It was the 20th reply, so should have been at the top of page 2. It's a pity, as it was a doozy.

Stop press, I went back a few dozen pages and retrieved it. Put it up there, but in case it doesn't take again, here it is:
a - ah, this has started well. I never was into this band at the time, but there was such a flood of excellent, spirited, single-making going on in the late 1970s, that I overlooked them, although I bought plenty of singles similar to this. I see that the yelping has brought out the pearl-clutchers in force. Personally, I think he has an interesting voice that perfectly suits the poppy-Cabs instrumental track, and is entirely in keeping with the era. One of the great things about punk and post punk was that vocals came to be more about theatrical performance, the projection of mood and the adoption of personae than hitting notes and all that moo-sick shit. Six minutes passed pleasantly enough. 6 / 10
b - pretty beginning. Sing up, lad, don't be shy. Unless of course you don't want to be heard, which I could well understand given that you're burbling out a folky nonentity like Nick the Duck's slightly less feeble younger brother. Labouring under the misapprehension that tunefulness and a bit of tasty picking is all you need. There were one or two parts where my ears pricked up where he seemed to be singing his own harmony lines – oh and just as I was beginning to think it wasn't so bad, the band has brought the cow-chunder, he's adopted a silly falsetto swoop and the whole thing has gone to shit and bombast. Good choice to fade it out after that. So, he is the mercury and he thinks it should rain. Is it a song about the weather? Outlook bleak
3.5 / 10

26 entered and the idea is for the next round to be 16, so 13 winners and three best losers.

Don't throw in the towel just yet. The three best losers also go through.

This "I must vote for the underdog" thing... wtf is that all about?

Seriously - it's completely beyond me.... and has been right from when I re-entered the cups.

You listen to the music and you decide you like B more but vote A because it has less votes than B?

And?!

I don't understand some of the reasons either. Either you like the song better or not, that should be it.

I tried explaining to a co-worker all the weird factors one has to consider before choosing a song in BCB competitions, not just this one, and I discovered halfway through that it sounded like I was talking about mental patients.

Thanks for the comment in regards to C's 'missing vote' in one of the ties. That is rather strange. Fortunately I don't think any other votes suffered the same fate.

The semis reinforced yet again the gulf between my taste and that of the BCB massive. Several have proclaimed them full of great ties, but there were only two tracks - one of them, the Wah Heat, I actually bought and loved, the other, barbara and ernie, completely new to me - for which I could summon up any more than the faintest of praise.
Ange, Geraint, well done, now try harder ;-)
