Ooh, a film-buff round to kick it off, eh? In the case of B, it's even in the buff. I was going to write that there's not many more iconic pieces of film music than A, but then I immediately thought of Jaws, and Star Wars, and decided I just know nothing about film music. It's a good old tune though, it does have the kind of weight and melancholic underpinning to shy it away from any accusation of just sounding a bit generically Italian.

B, however, is the best moment from one of my all-time favourite films. I kind of realised that I was a bit too far gone down the music-geek route when I found myself being much more excited by the song than by a butt-naked Britt Ekland (& butt double) slapping about the room. In the film, it's brilliant. As a stand-alone piece of music ... it's still brilliant.

B is about as authentic a piece of British folk as Showadywaddy were 50s rock n' roll. An American film composer coming up with something suitably weird and witchy for a film which had a somewhat loose understanding of pagan traditions. Does it matter? Does it hell. It's one of the most beguiling and entrancing songs I know and it bewitches me in its stark sensuality every time. Funnily enough I very nearly picked it myself.
A is, of course, possibly the most iconic film score ever written. It would be impossible to imagine anything more fittingly powerful. But it is all about the film, I've never wanted to listen to it outside that context.

Interesting start, with two songs keyed to specific movies, which I guess makes sense in terms of defining the era.

Anyway, B probably needs the visuals just a touch less. A, is G says, is more about the specific movie.

I fail to understand why anyone would listen to a soundtrack lp. They are invariably dull as ditchwater. This round proves my theory.
A. Although it would be vastly improved by some Bomb Squad production and Chuck and Flav dynamism.

I like both of these, and as others have said it comes down to the one which works better as a standalone, and that's B. Indeed, I really like its comforting yet sinister wooziness, while I wasn't too keen on the film when I saw it: I think it's a victim of its own success because coming to it thirty years after release, I knew too much about it beforehand to get drawn in.
A is an excellent theme to a masterpiece of American cinema, meanwhile, but it's not something I'm likely to sit and listen to on its own.
