Ooh, fusion... reminds me of being bored stiff by Brand X when I saw them live.
That's probably my favourite Pistols track - a mighty chunk of withering contempt, with that monumental guitar sound to drive it ever onwards.
Very easily B.

Why not Holidays on the Sun? Strange choice of Pistols track.

I enjoyed A. I'm not sure it's that special, it sounds very typical of its genre, but it had a warmth and groove I liked.
B proves even this early in their career ( if I can call it that given they split up a few months later) The Pistols had developed a formula sound they could fall back on when they couldn't come up with the goods. This was always the weakest track on Bollocks, the one you could never remember.

B's probably my least-favourite track on Bollocks. It's not inspired, sounds like filler really. Fuck knows why that was chosen.
I can't be arsed with TROPICAL SOUNDS usually but the other one sounds good to me on this FUCKING FREEZING BASTARD COLD FRIDAY NIGHT

Blue Mitchell, the Eastenders porn spin-off no-one wanted. It's actually surprisingly good, it's kinda got that Low Rider groove going on throughout, but both the trumpet and the sax really give the track a bit of extra verve. It could have really plumbed the depths of cheese, but the power and skill of the playing there really move the track in different directions, stop it being a one-tone piece. I like that quite a bit.
Yeah, this is a track that really shows how close The Pistols at heart were to the type of lumpen rock they supposedly blew away. There's little excitement, John Lydon appears to be off on one his worst "ooh, controversial me" childish rants that he's all too willing to fall into for an intelligent guy. Not much here to entertain is there?

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Sorry, A; I couldn't get past the first minute.
B, by default.

I have no time for the Sex Pistols - Bill Grundy rules. (I recall seeing that live with my old grandmother - I don't think she was impressed. 'They should wash their mouths out')
A is pleasant enough - some nice solos [at least they can play their instruments]. Some oooofness abounds

a - never heard of this guy, but he's got a trumpet in his hand, so expectations are low. And, oh joy, it's a funky fusion work-out. So much not my thing it's almost a cliche - oh, suddenly a tenor man with great breath control and long lines has walked in and improved things immensely. And there's some cabbage with six strings and an effects pedal to ruin things again. Whoever thought that an angry duck on methedrine was a good sound to perk up a genre would definitely be on My List. And there's even a fucking cowbell. Hm, liked some of the jazz, hated most of the funk. 4 / 10
b - I suppose one of the singles would have been voted down for 'obviousness', as would 'Bodies', but if you're going to avoid those, why the weakest track on the album? And why a youtube clip with the volume turned down to two? Steve Jones is hardly there, which is weird when you think he based his entire style on Johnny Thunders, while Lydon can't really get behind a lyric that slags off a band that was such a profound influence. I love the Pistols, but B got lucky with his opponent here. 4.5 / 10

Urgh. B has lost none of its thuggish charm, I suppose. More to like in A, though.

The fact that B is the "forgotten" Sex Pistols song is, imo, a good reason to pick it. Spedding is great on it. And if anything I think ol' Rotten is having fun being cartoonish. And Thunders' response is one of his great moments - on an album with Cook and Jones!
A is fine, just a bit bewildering as there are approximately 35,148 (give or take) similar things that are better.

I look forward to your Spotify playlist of all 35, 149!
B is fine, but A is finer. Fusion, it is not - it is funky soul jazz, by a big group of fantastic players.

A is new to me and perfectly enjoyable. B is, as has been said, a lesser track on NMTB but I still dig it’s thuggish sneer. And I’ve only just realised what it’s about thanks to Ray. Today it’s

I'm preferring the funky jazz rather than the sneering thrash.
